Also try to play senarios that have objects thats count as banners. Guarding a well, building, road, wall section, or person would be great if it was a banner.

Banner, love 'em. The re-rolls are very useful whether I be playing with my gobbos or with the rohirrim.
And I love opponents who use them... the effort they go to to keep them alive, all those guys dropping spears and shields... mine get shot, I let them die

Banners for me are evocative and i use them because of the importance and emphasis given to the emblems of Aragorn, Isildur, Minas Tirith, Rohan, the Serpent King etc by Tolkien.
The rules are an added bonus, one which is very useful, but a pain in the [word deleted] if my opponent and i have lots of banners and/or we both get the bonus in the same fight. Thus often we don't use the rule if both sides have a banner in range for the sake of speed.
