Mathusala, I will change the topic when I think it is appropriate. I know that the title is Weekly Tactical Discussions, but it is very rare that it changes exactly on date. It has changed exactly a week after being originally posted just once, and has stretched out to as long as 24 days. The topic does not change every week, because I like to leave it long enough to thrive and actually get some discussion. In the beginning, when this thread was fresh, people replied very quickly and a week was long enough to get a decent discussion in. However, the discussion gradually stagnated and has only recently come alive again. But, it is still not as lively as it used to be, and by your judgement, 6 posts, of which only one had any tactical merit, is enough to qualify as a discussion and warrants a change of topic. I will not abide you walking in and changing the topic without me authorizing it - once was fine, especially after it had been a long time without a topic change and no-one had replied, but this second time is ridiculous.

The New topic, (yes, we are having a new topic) is... um.... Uruk-hai Demolition Teams

Personally I do not see a use for these outside of siege battles, but I know that some people do field the bombs in an attempt to blow people up... but does it work? are they worth it?

They are very useful in seiges and i use them frequently. In open battles i have nevr used them but they could be useful in destroy buildings or killing enemy heroes.

but back on topic yousing uruk bombs for manslauter just dosent work u would kill your very valuable uruk for the price of most likly only one hero if its a strong hereo by all means do it

Ahem. Anyway, Uruk Demo. teams are an absolute NO-NO in pitched battles. nothing more to be said.

HOWEVER... (love that huge exclamation) in sieges, the are the cream of the crop, the Piece de resistance, the crown jewel of an Uruk-Hai army. I'm now bored of going on and on about how good they are. I will just say that if you stick one up against th wall, the wall may as well not be there...

One last word: they are much better if you put 2, or even 3, right next to each other against the walls. then, you only need to use one berserker, and generally, that will detonate both. then you can get up to 4D6 wounds on the wall, at Strength 10!!!

You must be joking. People actually use them to blow up enemy footmen?! :lol: :lol:
Still, the box set is surely worth it, because you not only get the bombs and ladders, but what's to stop you from converting the engineers to something more generally fieldable - and you get to berserkers with a different pose from others.
Personally, I think it's a bit of a waste to spend a perfectly good semi-troll just to cut a 4" hole into a wall - especially since there's no guarantee.

In a pitched battle the apponent has to be pretty damn stupid to let on of them get close to Aragorn.

Area of denial is a tactic in which you use a model or models to block the enemy from going into a certain area which could be tactically important.

Oh, ok. I thought it meant you were embarrassed because you couldn't think of any more ideas for this thing and it was finally going to grind to a halt.

Ahem. *clearing throat*

This is my favourite tactic in Take and Hold, provided I get to play evil. I simply get as many goblins and/or orcs as I can, and simply fill the 3-inch target area (and often a bit more) around the objective. Then the good side throw themselves at my orcs continuously, and don't do anything, and when the game finally ends, I am always going to have more models in the center of the board than the good side. Yippee!!!

And for the good side... I dunno. I think that they generally have too few troops to be able to do stuff like that. Someone else can talk about the good side. Go Orcs!!!

Area of Denial is more when you make people not want to go somewhere, rather than making it impossible.

A good tactic for that is too use big scary troops, such as trolls, this will stop smaller infantry units attacking without backup.

Uruk-Hai Crossbows have a nice psychological effect. If you have six of them sitting on a hill overlooking the "area of denial", your opponent will often think twice before entering the area. Against WoMT, for example, the six crossbows will kill on average only one warrior per turn, but the opponent may still be scared. Headology, as Granny Weatherwax says. :) Also elven bows work similarly against some players.

I'm not sure people understood the area of denial topic, I think Thror meant about the fact that you cant pass within an inch of a model without going into combat with them, so conceivably you could set models but with a certain amount of space between them around an objective and force them into combat.

I may be wrong but thats what I think thror is getting at here.
