Last year I started a WIP thread on here and I wasn't able to keep up with it sadly and it died out. I'm returning to chronicle battle reports I've played in this thread and hope that they are enjoyable for you to read.

I nearly have Escape From Goblin Town painted up and am planning on doing some An Unexpected Journey Scenarios shortly after. Who knows where I will go from there. I paint everything on my own to the highest standard I can and play solo so this will probably be an irregular thread but at least for now, I should be able crank out a number of battle reports in the coming weeks. I'm focused on capturing the narrative of this game so I hope that makes these interesting to read and sets them apart from all the great content on Youtube.

My first report is The Breakthrough which is a challenging but fun introduction to the Hobbit SBG. I admit that I should have taken more pictures than I did but here is one to wet your appetite. Image

Nice! I like the paint job on the goblins as well. I always found them vexing to paint.

Excellent photo and very nice figure painting! Even better, you figure out how to post a photo in your post.

Thank you both for the kind words! I don't know how easy it is to link images from Google Drive, but from Wordpress it is pretty easy to post pictures on here. I'd be happy to provide more information, if that interests you Brian.

I played Rescue The Baggage this weekend and while I took more and better photos, I'm going to keep practicing to try and get even better at it. The second scenario was also not quite as much fun or at least not the way I played it. To find out more, you'll have to read on and if you've played this scenario, I'd love to hear your thoughts and advice on it!

I recently tried Brothers in Arms and I don't think I'm spoiling too much to say that I found it very challenging. My first attempt resulted in a quick loss as I made a bunch of tactical mistakes. On the upside, I got a beautiful battle mat to play the game on and make the pictures look even nicer! If you want to see the gory details read below!

With a much clearer idea of what is needed to win, I tried this scenario a second time to see if Thorin's Company could improve their performance. Did it go better? You'll have to read on to find out!

If you've had any luck making this scenario more fun to play (and more balanced) do let me know and I may give this scenario another try. Otherwise, I'll move on to scenario 4 next weekend!

These reports are really good work. I look forward to seeing scenarios in the future more worthy of the effort you're making!

GAK - Thank you for the kind words and for checking out my battle reports!

DaveT - I really appreciate your kind words as well. I have read a number of your battle reports and find them really inspirational. I also appreciate your honest assessment as to the quality of the scenario. So far, the early Hobbit scenarios are a bit more hit or miss than I would like but I don't mind too much as I have had a blast painting up the minis.

This weekend I had a chance to play Guard the Crossing which was a nice shift from the previous scenarios. I had some unusual things happen in my game but I enjoyed it overall and would definitely give this scenario a second play through, especially with a house rule to make sure the Goblin King turns up. As usual, you can read more about how it went in the link below. Thank you for reading and I hope you enjoy!

Thanks Voyager and Stew! I really appreciate your support and it keeps me excited for that next scenario :D

For scenario five, we have only two models for the good side and to completely give it away, I had a great time with this scenario. There were some pretty cool moments and I think it is fair to say that I got some of the best in-game pictures from it as well. Hopefully I didn't butcher the rules too badly because the way I played ended up being a ton of fun! As usual, a link to the full write-up is below and some pictures to wet your appetite as well :)

Nice battle report and nice photos!

Not sure if I understood correctly, but did Gandalf sorcerous blast while in combat? Because models already engaged in combat may not cast Magical Powers (though they can do this during their charge).

It seemed like the way I played the scenario was a little too good to be true and you caught my mistake, Voyager! Gandalf should not have been able to use magic in that situation and he almost certainly was on his way to dying. I will update the battle report to acknowledge by mistake. Thank you for reading and for catching that! :)

left a comment on the blog. Great report as expected!
No one gets the rules 100% right 100% of the time. : )
least as a solo gamer, you can't hold a grudge.... :)

Thank you both for all your support and I have to say that it is awesome that we have this little group of solo gamers in this sub-forum. I wonder if we can inspire some others to play and/or post in here?

I am happy to say that I have played the sixth and final scenario from The Escape From Goblin Town set. It was an interesting scenario that was fun and there were no major mistakes using magic rules this time. Were Radagast and Gandalf able to survive a trip down to Goblin Town? You can find out at the link below:

This is very belated but thanks as always, Stew!

Wow, has it really been a month since my last game? Apparently so! I decided to replay Rescue The Baggage with the dwarves jumping the platforms and houseruling it so the goblins had to let them get at least one jump in. How did the game go? Assuming I didn't making any major rules mistakes, quite well! Below are a few images and there's a link if you'd like to read more about it :)

Well I finally got another game in and this time it is my first An Unexpected Journey scenario! Roast Mutton is certainly an iconic chapter in The Hobbit and it was fun to play though not as much as I had necessarily hoped. I think it will play better in a campaign setting which I am slowly working my way towards. To read more and see all the pictures, you can visit the link below:

I love your photography and write-up, but yeah, that scenario's an unexpectedly poor one. Which is really too bad, as the troll models look great IMO (both in general and yours in particular) and it's a shame the only scenario for them isn't very interesting.
