To celebrate the release of the new Pelennor Fields SBG Box set Septembers painting challenge will be any miniature from this set or previous release from that Battle, i.e. old metal Rohan, Orcs etc... The challenge is open from now as most of the models are previously available.

*This will be a single miniature challenge.

1. To enter the painting challenge, the miniature you are painting must not be painted before starting and picture proof must be shown of the miniature 'pre-painted' (unprimed, undercoated or if you are repainting and old miniature - in its' original paint scheme) otherwise your entry will not be eligible.

2. You may join the painting challenge in progress at any time, but must submit photographs of the completed miniature by midnight GMT of Sept 30th 2018. WIP images are welcomed and encouraged. A maximum of 4 photos of your completed entries please, this allows you to show your miniatures off from front, back and each side which is more than enough. If you would like to compile more than four pictures into one file it is ok to do that

Pictures of completed models must be submit using a third party hosting site such as Imgur (easy to use) photobucket or imageshack. Pictures submit by attachment will not be eligible for the vote. Any problems PM me.

3. Miniatures that are completed in time will be eligible to win the challenge. The challenge winner will be decided by the vote of the OR community. The community will choose one winner and one runner-up from the completed miniatures. Votes should be cast not simply on painting skill, but on merit, including creativity, application of painting techniques, artist improvement, etc. There is no prize available for the winners of this challenge, the challenge is solely for community participation and as an incentive for people to reduce their backlog and improve their painting skills.

Good luck and have fun!

Gonna go with orcs. Fun to paint. I am not that skilled, but should be fun. Once I get my set, gonna go with a Morannon Orc, or maybe Mordor Troll...

Sign me up !

Undercoated pic below, had him lying around - my plan is to use this chap as a tester to work out a colour scheme for the rest of the guys in the box.

I will try something to. I've bought the new box with a friend of mine. So I will try to make a nice troll model from it. Picture of it wil be sent soon. The box wil be delivered this week (some delay in the local shop, because too much people preordered some of the books...)
I hope I will be finished before the challange is over, because I've only got a few weeks left...

Picked up the new box set on saturday and have started King Theoden and now half way through painting it. I forgot to post an unpainted photo but as it was only released last weekend i hope no objects?

Its a lovely sculpt, very inspiring to paint and quite addictive in wanting to get back to the painting table to do more!

I object! The scult is too cool :P
I think I never seen a 28mm in so many parts!
Are you going with the helmet or no helmet version?

It's all good, it got released after the painting challenge and imo even if it wasn't, your word is cool enough and the challenge is just another motivation to paint it's not the olympics :puppy:

Hello, my first Rider of Rohan is complete :-D

Fairly pleased with him, obviously always working on improving but he looks quite presentable on the tabletop and I can't wait to paint up his comrades and have them gloriously charge some orcs:

I'm in as well :) Just need to assemble the troll and take some picture as a proof. And I hope I will have time to finish it by the end of the month.. With 2 month old child this might be a problem. Will see :)

Thanks "Whatevier", i actually took along time thinking of helmet on or off
and finally decided to have the helmet on, one day if someone sells one cheap or GW release in separately (they normally do with other game systems) i will buy him again and paint the helmet off version.

Great entry Scib, very nicely painted

Here's my entry, Eomer, which Iv had primed for about 4 years now! I think I have painted 1 horse ever before so who knows how this one will go, I am gonna try the dapple effect too. Great motivation, so glad the Hobby Challenge is back!

Image

Please forgive me I was halfway through painting the horse grey when I realised I hadn't taken the proof picture.

Nice job Scib, and good turnaround time!

Nice to see the competition, good luck with painting the models!
I will try to make something nice out of the troll sprue too.
This was how it looked yesterday when it arrived in the mailbox:
Image
I hope to put a photo online later this week from my proces. I'm using some other models to for the base (a troll without corpses around him isn't a good troll, right...?).

I'll join in, it's been far too long since I've been in one of these.
Image

I did take this picture towards the end of July, but I didn't start painting until August so I hope it's fine. If not I can find something else.
