Hi everyone! I am new to LOTR SBG. I don't own any of it yet, but I've been reading all about it and want to get involved. So..... what should I know? Where should I begin? Hit me with anything.

Thanks, Everyone!

P.S. Here is a bit about myself:

1. I live in Virginia, USA
2. I'm 26 years old
3. I LOVE Lord of the Rings but am not your quintessential nerd.
4. I love models and landscapes, and Middle Earth platform makes it all the better.

Welcome! I am also a newcomer to this game though I've been wargaming for over 50 years. Like you I like the Hobbit and LOTR books.

Our grandchildren are the reason I'm playing these games after the oldest grandson and I played The Hobbit in the very friendly Edinburgh Warhammer store, Callum got hooked and grandad had to buy the set. He did say he will pay me back "When I'm rich and famous" - sounds like his mother!

I really enjoy the modelling almost as much as the games. I'm sure that you will too.

Hi amoberly,
welcome from me too. I'm quite new at the one ring myself, but I'm doing LotR SBG for a couple of years. Like dadlamassu I play tabletop with my oldest grandson (10 years) whenever we meet or wirth my youngest son (31 years), but that's Happening more seldom. And from time to time I'm going to a tournament.

So, my advice to you: 1. Get a copy of the current book of rules (not There and Back again, because that's more like a supplement, athough really good and worth its Money, but the Hobbit rulebook An unexpected Journey.

2. Decide which army you would like to play and start building and collecting a list of around 500 pts. Perhaps you should start without cavalry, because then it's easier to play. I once did start with Moria (buying the starter set). And yould buy the armybook where your warband is described.

3. Find some opponents to play with. Maybe there's a tabletop Club in your neighbourhood. And you can watch battlereports on YouTube, but better have a read in the rulebook first.

If you have got a little experience, just go to a tournament. I would expect you to have a lot of fun there. I have met a lot of nice guys there, really more nice ones than idiots!

Maybe you could tell us of your further experiences in sbg.

Welcome guys! If you have Facebook, you should also join The Great British Hobbit League group. Most of the action that existed on here has since migrated to Facebook. This place still has its charms though... (Even if the tomes of wisdom has somehow disappeared) Make sure to check out the monthly painting competition too.

Have fun! :)

Greetings, and welcome to the One Ring!

I would start with the Escape from Goblin Town set and then go from there. After you get a look at the basic rules and get a handle on how to play the game you can decide if you want to just collect a single faction or build towards scenarios, etc.

Hey Everyone, thanks for your awesome responses! This is actually also my first time ever posting in a forum, haha! Thanks also for the tips. I'm going to begin exploring. Do you know if there is much of this game going on in the USA?

If you are on Facebook, there is another group American Strategy Battke Game Alliance run by Devin Moreno here in the D.C. area.

Also, go to the D.C. Hobbit League site. http://www.dchobbitleague.com
