Welcome to the Tale of Painters. The aim of this challenge is to paint an army in a set time limit, painting a certain amount each month. Unlike other versions of the Tale run elsewhere, this will be fairly relaxed and flexible and will not require proof pictures of unpainted miniatures (though you are welcome to of course). The idea is not necessarily to buy and start a new army from scratch but to complete a force that many of us will already have collected and fiddled with. As long as the miniatures are unfinished, they're good to use. The aim is to motivate and inspire everyone to fully complete their army and have fun along the way!

Rules
- All models used for the pledge must be unfinished at the start of the month. Doesn't matter if models are half-painted or mostly painted or if you are repainting bits of them, that's all good. While not enforced, you're only cheating yourself!
- You will receive 1 Joker for every 6 months you pledge. These can be used to skip a month. Jokers can be obtained by doubling your pledge for the month. If circumstances change though, don't be afraid to alter your pledge level. As long as you're able to continue on.

If you're keen to join in for some motivation and a fun project, just fill out the sign up sheet below. New participants welcome at any time before the last 3 months.

Name: Username/Nickname
Time commitment: Anywhere from 3-12 months, depending on the amount of models you need to finish and how fast you paint. You're welcome to do 6 months and then resign up with another force for the remaining 6 months
Army: Primary faction and any allies
Monthly pledge: However many points you commit to a month. You may also do a warband a month instead (or more!)
Background (optional): Any other information you feel like putting down. Reasons for choosing the faction, army theme, picture of intended project, test scheme(s) etc.

I look forward to seeing your projects develop!

Monthly pledge: 1 Warband
Background (optional): I've always been a fan of Gondor in general and the Warriors of Minas Tirith were the first models I ever got (paint set then RotK). Fiefdoms have also interested me as I like to imagine the lesser known parts of Gondor. The basic theme for the core of my force would centre around a city in Belfalas, maybe Linhir but the collection has spiralled out to include anything Gondorian. I am as yet unsure how to include Denethor in the theme but it allows changes in lists!

Looking forward to seeing your work! I've decided to change mine to a warband a month rather than trying to work out points. After all I'm completing a collection, not an army and being able to theme a month's painting could be fun.

Here's what I'm planning for my Gondor, so far the only ones completely finished:

Didn't quite manage to finish a full warband, maybe I was being a bit ambitious but this month have done 9/12 High Elves and Elrond

Well there's still a week and a half left in the month ;)
(I'm going off actual months rather than the thread start for easier bookkeeping and counting the first half a month as a sign up)

They look fantastic though! Love the bases and how you tied Elrond into the scheme

I had better get my act in gear then lol. I have, at least, worked on a colour scheme for my army so from there I should be able to pile on with batch painting.

I adore that warband, Scib. Nice idea and brilliantly executed. Please share your paint schemes.

Name: GreatKhanArtist
Time commitment: semester break
Army: harad
Monthly pledge: warband of haradrim plus king on foot and a few stragglers
Background (optional): Gotta get these guys off my desk so I can move the woefully unbalanced tablecloth. And then I can start my seamen of Dol Amroth conversions!

That is an amazing diorama! Haven't really seen one in a bowl before, it looks tricky!

My first month fizzled but I'll have them ready this time.

Time commitment: 8 months

Army: Erebor

Monthly pledge: 3 minis per month

Background (optional): Using this fantastic idea to get me back into painting, I'm usually a slow painter so 3 per month will keep me plenty busy. I'm hoping to finish 12 warriors of Erebor, 7 Grim Hammers, Thorin, Thror, Thrain, Balin and Dwalin by the 8 months.

Looking forward to seeing what you do!

This is what I've managed so far. It's been a bit of a struggle trying to rediscover painting skills.

Any pictures?

January was too busy for me to get anything done. Hopefully a few Rangers this month though!
