I'm going on a course this year with Meg Maples we're she uses a 2 brush technique. That's laying a base colour, quick brush switch to apply the high then let the colours blend as they dry.
Then of course wet blending can be a simple way.

I've tried wet blending a few times but it seemed a tricky method to use for anything other than a single character and my focus over the recent years has been towards simple techniques that I can repeat with consistent results.

It's mostly the paint I used - chrome from the vallejo model air range.

Hello everybody

I've been off working on other projects for most of this year but with those coming to an end I'm making a return to middle earth. I'm starting off with the Fellowship and specifically Legolas.

Some very fine paint work as usual though not as natural/organic (if that makes sense) as your usual work, have you used a different technique?

No I used the same techniques as I did on the superhero and infinity models. The difference is that I pushed the contrast further than normal and used a new brush to get some nice sharp edges.

Another great job. I'm liking the texture in the cloak. It may be the photo but if anything the colour of the sword blade is a little too close a match to the cloak.

The colours aren't quite what I intended. I still freak out a little at painting long flowing robes and I focused mainly on getting the lighting right. I painted the sword last and after three hours of intensive painting I didn't feel like doing anything adventurous so just used the mixes already on my palette.

How did you get Gandalf's robes to look like that, like you can see the sewing seems and all?

The cloth texture in the robes is such a great touch.

Lots of fine lines.

Beautiful work on Gandalf, I've recently acquired the khazad dum version and I'm looking forward to painting him, very inspiring.

This is possibly one half of my entry for this month's competition if I can find a suitable companion. I have Cirdan prepared but my lotr knowledge is lacking these days and apart from being elves I don't know if they're actual faction buddies.
