They look good to me bud. One little bit of advice would be when highlighting and shading white water your paint down a little more than normal to smooth out transitions.

Thanks for the comments guys. Maybe just been a little harsh on myself. I think I need to be in the right frame of mind to paint large white areas and it's not a style I have done much.

Thanks for the tip DMS.

Update of my work in May. Spent largely cleaning up and assembling Smaug (Finally braved getting around to starting him!). Bit more green stuff to do then onto priming. In between I've done a bit of painting:

Orc from Dol Guldur (Golb) for the May painting challenge, Found this model quite challenging, particularly the face and head area:

Following the Dol Guldur theme, I've also painted Thrain the Broken. I wanted the cloak to be a worn red colour as a throwback to his original cloak from earlier in the films. Quite pleased with the effect:

With all the excitement of the new releases I thought I best try to make a dent in backlog so I tried my hand at speed painting. I decided the Fell Wargs might be a good choice. The following took about 8 hours from primed to based (which is super quick for me!!!) over a few sessions. Relatively pleased with them considering the effort I put in:

Your Glob Gundabad General came out awesome. Some fine looking wargs as well.

Nice work of the General and Thrain, the Wargs also look suitably ferocious.

To be honest, the first thing I noticed was the crack on your building behind Thrain. It looks like a cockroach. :-D
Aside from that, I really like those wargs. 8) I need to find me some...

Thanks all, should be back with an update soon.

@MacCollac - The mat is from Urbanmatz, they have several different version, the one in the pictures above is the grasslands one. I can highly recommend them.

Thanks! BTW: Your miniatures look awesome, watched them all from begin to end. Really jealous of your skill! I am about to start painting for the first time. Any tips :).

Thanks MacCollac. I've left some thoughts on your thread.

Here's my latest work.........The Nazgul. Was a bit stumped on how to approach these so went for something a bit different. Any feedback on how they have turned out would gratefully received.

They look fine, have you gone with a slight blue tint for highlighting?

Black cloth is tricky, always playing between too bright on highlights or too dark and trying to blend without making it all grey... yeah, pain in the butt. I think they look great.

Thanks for the feedback, yes it's a blue highlight.

This months painting challenge gave me the perfect excuse to get some paint on Aragorn (Black Gate), otherwise I'd have no reason to paint him. Seem to have spent a long time on him but really enjoyed it and I am pleased with the final results:

Very nice mate, I like. A little tip, mounted Aragorn and the blue highlights to his cape. Thin the blue, 1 part paint 4 parts water. Have next to none on your brush and using the side of the brush glaze over the whole cloak. That little bit of subtle colour will help tie it in to the whole cloak.
If necessary touch the highs again.

Thanks for the tip Gandalf, I wouldn't have thought of doing what you suggested. I taken your advice and am very pleased with the results, I think it's made a big difference to the final model. A couple of new shots below. First picture has a 'false shine' on it, the second is closer to reality:

Much better. Little things like this can make a huge difference. You can start to learn the art of glazing and how to push the pigments where you want them. For example when glazing highs you brush in one direction only and the strike ends at the highest point. This pushes the pigment to the end creating the highlight. Again you are using more the side of the brush. Vice versa for shades.

A long overdue update. Output has been a bit slow over the last few weeks (enjoying the UK sunshine!) but here is what I have been working on:

First up is 12 Hunter Orcs to continue the army I started earlier this year. I really did not enjoy painting these and I am not looking forward to the next 12 (plus another 12 mounted ones):

I've also completed the final 6 Ringwraiths. I'm pleased with how these have turned out but not particularly interesting to paint. Here's the 9 together:

Finally I started and completed Gamling for last months painting challenge. First attempt at any real freehand and it's not great. I am, however, really pleased with how the rest of the model has turned out:

I've decided to go to my first event in September (The Warhammer World Doubles) so for the first time ever I have a deadline to meet for my painting. I only need to do about 7 Dwarves so it shouldn't be too difficult but I think these will be next up on the painting table. Then I might do a couple of hero models before moving back onto completing the Hunter Orcs.

Some further work this week. 4 more Hunter Orcs done:

Then finished the rest of the army for the Warhammer World Doubles next month, this included 5 Erebor Dwarves with Spear & Shield and a Erebor Banner Bearer:

What might be up next!!!!! This is making me nervous. This will be a very slow project and be done in between other things!
