I was enchanted by the Lord of the Rings movies at the same time I played Yugioh competitively. My card store had these sorts of miniatures... the elves from the Two Towers. I had around 24 to begin with... but now that I'm in college with a job I can afford to build the force of my dreams!

I have bought hundreds of miniatures off of eBay, and I continue to do so. I haven't reached my goal yet.

This is the direction I'm going in... What do yall think of the color combination?

As yall can see... I have a lot of stripping to do... and a lot of painting to do. Any tips for painting large masses? It's hard to start. I'm working on a full fleshed out prototype right now.

Glad this site is here. I thought sharing these guys would help motivate me to finally start painting them in mass.

Greetings, and welcome to the One Ring!

No tips for mass painting other than to break it down into smaller groups and "reward" yourself with a hero or something different every now and then to break the monotony.

Love the color scheme, by the way!

Looking great. I love these miniatures also, they're much nicer sculpts than the plastic Galadrhim warriors that came later. Lack of spears has always been my worry with them, but I'd never considered using the Guard of the Galadrhim court as pike supports for them! The models fit together so well I have no idea why I never considered it!

That is the biggest collection of metal Galadhrim models I have ever seen. What a mighty force! You are certainly going to have fun painting that lot, ;) but once completed they will be a sight to behold, if your test model is anything to go by.

Keep us updated on your progress :)

As most of us who have a good sized backlog waiting to painted can attest, it can seem overwhelming to have that amount of models lined up and ready to be painted. What I've found to work for me is to remember that you're painting because you WANT TO paint the models, not because you HAVE TO, you know ? It's a fun process, it can be very rewarding, and if it takes 6 months (or longer) to paint up that massive force to the level of quality that you're happy with, then so be it ! Remember to have fun painting each and every one !

As far as the paint color scheme, I do like what you posted, but you may find that you need a bit more color in the mix, especially for a force of that size. Maybe you could paint up a couple more test models, one with classic Galadhrim Blue Cloaks, Gold Armour and Dark Red Tunics, and then another version that I've seen that looks great is to go with the Dark Red on both the Tunics and Cloaks, along with the gold Armour. Then you can decide which of the three works best for you !

Good luck, and definitely keep us posted as you go along - that is such an impressive set of metal Galadhrim, I really look forward to seeing how you get along with painting and basing them all...

So this is the finished protoype... I used a high gloss on the armor/quiver... do yall think that was a misstep? I used matte varnish on the rest of the model. I think I can paint better than this... I need to remaster armor creation. The model in the first picture was done in January, and I need to rediscover that technique.

I'll upload more photos of previous prototypes in the next few posts. For some reason or another I wanted to avoid using the same color palette as the movies.. I wanted my own army, and white is my favorite color! "How to incorporate white and color at the same time?" Has been my biggest question. Is the green grass enough?

To answer the question...

I have nearly 300 Bowman, 150 Swordsman, and 36 Guards. I'm working toward 500 Bowman, 200 Swordsman, and 50 Guards though... lol. After that? I'm not sure... build an enemy? There's a little pressure since they aren't being made anymore.

Grey cloak... I wanted to have my entire army grey and have the officers white at one point. When I painted the entire model... I had a brown core instead of silver, and I think that made the model too dark. If I repainted with a silver middle it might work.
Image
I call this Dallas Cowboy Blue... I think it matches a part of one of their uniforms. I'm from Texas... anyway - I wasn't sure if this looked all that great.

This is the 3rd prototype I went through. I wasn't as skilled at painting armor at this point... though I do like how the skin turned out on this one. These models with the flowing cloaks are easier to paint than the straight cloaked ones in my opinion.

That's a lot of figures! I can only wish you good luck in getting the remainder needed. I look forward to seeing the completed force one day (and the enemy you choose) 8)

This army is overwhelming!
First of all, welcome to OR, your collection is massive and will gorgeous to work on it. I think you'll need a "strengthen will" spell cast on you to finish it.
Wish you the best of luck. I like the blue-ish elf from your last update.

Welcome to One-Ring and that is a mightily impressive sized force, they're going to look smashing once they're all painted up.
