The elves look particularly good - the grey horses (apparently in equine circles white horses are just a very pale grey) really make them stand out and add to the unified appearance.

Apologies in advance readers, for the following gratuitous photo dump – after finishing my Elf cavalry I set up my terrain and went a little snap happy with my Nikon.

Elf paint jobs – these are really basic and not finished, I'll go back one day and refine them but for now they are gaming quality. Refining them will be a simple case of working on more highlights and blending them in. Oh and some detail like the eyes. I did a little triple spot pattern on the robes of the elf cavalry which I like... so think I'll do that on all the infantry at some point too.

Terrain – I need to do a little work to blend the green to match the gaming mat but they'll do for now. The ruins need some more weathering and growth on them but that's for a later date too.

So that's me got a little Elf army to start gaming with!

Forgot I had these 10mm guys! Definitely my preferred scale for large battles.

check out my WIP
viewtopic.php?f=50&t=19966&start=200

gonna be doing some rivendell knights soon. As you'll see in my thread, i'm basing elven miniatures off of first age elves.

The rivendell knights will be "Fingon's knights"

Cool very nice, great paint jobs! I'll need to keep an eye on your thread!

All the riders have in common is really blue cloaks and silver armour.

I'm designing some first age elves with the intent to sculpt. Silver, blue and white were also in my mind for a colour scheme!

What a delightful force and those 10mm look great, though not a scale I want to go near.

I did a bit of housekeeping this morning and went through all my LOTR minis. After several rounds on ebay I've gather quite a pile of plastic and metal... in many ways I'm glad new releases drying up!

This will keep me going for years to come...

Two hills in progress! I'm coming round to the idea of the bigger the better for terrain, both of these are about 25" by 15"- 20".

After shaping the polystyrene I painted the underside with PVA mixed with paint, this gives it a nice hard seal and toughens up the edges a lot! Once dry I bulked up a second tier, used a hot glue gun to stick the dried bark in place, then got some filler in to blend everything together.

I'll be painting a couple of basecoats of PVA mixed with sand and paint, before doing it all the same colours and the previous terrain.

Nice pieces of terrain, the bark will be very effective once painted up.

Looking good so far. Obviously the bigger the terrain, the better it is. A custom board is always better than modular terrain (as far as detail and such), so large modular pieces are a good compromise.

Initial painting complete on the hills.

Everything will get a thin wash next to dull it down, then I've got the tricky task of trying to match all my green scatter terrain bases to the gaming mat itself...

I finally read through all of this thread. Everyone has already said everything possible. Excellent work! I'm planning on getting some of those Fallen Dwarves while they're in stock. (Crossbows and command are out of stock, sadly) Looking forward to more! 8)

Do the Phalanx dwarves have the option for the spears you made? or just the axes?

Just axes unfortunately, Anvil have concerns on the fragility of spears in resin. Spears are really easy to make/convert though I'll need to do a tutorial at some point!

One other question, what profile would you use for these fallen dwarves? Would they be dwarf warriors or a different elite status, needing a profile for themselves?

Sorry to keep going back to these dwarves. Your terrain looks great too!

I've not really thought much about it but I think the existing good dwarf profiles are fine to use with the Fallen Dwarves!

Inspiring topic, just completed a power read through it and my conversion mind is in over drive. :)

Currently gathering resources to begin a Southlands theme collection, your mahud and harad being particularly noted.

Great work on the hobbit set - really like those goblins and you showed so much more utility for them yet.

Await next update! :)
