I started painting ceramics at age 8...does that count? I wasn't such a bad painter, but everything I made was super tacky.

I tend to strip my minis, so I don't have a lot of bad old ones. My niece started her painting hobby at age 3 by sneaking into my room and painting a batch of lavender wargs. Oh the horror. They were surprisingly well covered, though.

Hi everybody!

I looked at my painted miniatures and found my very first painted miniature; Haldir with armour. I am curious how your first miniature looks like, so feel free to post a picture.
Maybe this thread can also be a motivation for beginners.

My first miniatures were a set of 12 moria goblins that came with BGIME issue one, and four paints if my memory serves. I still believe they are lying around in one of my many boxes of minis at home.

I remember the excitement of setting up in the kitchen with loads of newspaper to stop getting everywhere messy, and thinking how absolutely amazing the mini looked following undercoating. And then how terrible it looked after my assault upon it with slathers of mithril silver, scorched brown and goblin green! I'll whip one out and take a photo later.

The first minis I painted with my own paints were also some goblins, so they looked not very nice (you can see one of them in my WIP). I had the luck that my cousin gave me Haldir and gave me some basic painting tips. Furthermore, I could use all of his paints, so I had a much bigger colour palette.

LOL my first LOTR figure from the Film releases was a Goblin as well.

I did collect and paint the Citadel LOTR figures back in the 1980s

Love this idea, have dug out some of my first models this morning.

My first painted models were the Moria Goblins from issue one of BGiME;

Here's my most recently completed model, Mounted Gandalf the Grey;

And here's a pic of the two together along with a Last Alliance Elf from my second batch of models;

Looking at them side by side, I can see how far I've progressed but I've still got a way to go, especially with faces/eyes.
