I watched The Fellowship on blu-ray last night. It's funny how much more detail you get over and above the dvd picture. There are subtleties of texture and colour you simply do not see otherwise except in some stills.
Frodo looks great to me. Apart from the thick sword...

Been a while since I painted anything LoTR but this months Challenge seems like a perfect excuse to start something new again so I picked a few minis from my stash looking for one to paint and ended up deciding on Theoden on horse and a spare Hama I had and that I will be adding a banner.

Here's how this project is so far.

Thank you SD! Yes it is. I gonna try to do it all in NMM. The armour gold bits are so tiny tho, gonna be a challenge!

Nice start mate. A varied palette which I am surprised and interested about. Watching with interest.
Helmet looks good. Are you going to push the contrast ?
I'm going NMM with mine. I got a new recipe which I must admit I am liking. Gutted in the other respect as I bought the scale 75 NMM set. Could have saved a few pounds.

Oh wow, that sword. If the rest of the figure is as good as that, well, it'll be another beauty! Looking forward to seeing more!

very well painted up, i just like how the sword looks. It has some comic like colour feeling to me.

@ Gandlaf: yes, contrast is key to a nice looking NMM. The steel bits probably wont change too much, but the gold will have to be a lot more defined.

@ Garmenhord: well, NMM is just an illustration technique applied to 3D in this case. Comicbooks use it all the time, since they almost never use real metallic paints.

Wow. That is a greatly detailed model, and your painting brings it out wonderfully.

The bases dont really worry me much, but the painting takes a bit of time and I arrive home pretty knackered these days. I can maybe paint for about an hour or just a bit longer.

...so probably not, I just got thrown a ton of extra work that I wasnt expecting.

Well, there is always hope!

...and a little bit more. This time just worked the gold parts a bit more. Slowly, but I'll get to the end of it.

Gold is looking nice. I have tried a purple glaze on mine in the darkest areas and it really works well. Check my blog or my elf command WIP and see if this look suits what you want.

Beautiful painting Mac. Getting home knackered is a sign of old age. Been there done that.

Thanks for the nice comments. :D

Well, these will be the last wip piccies before I post the final ones for the challenge. There's one or two things I wanna add to it, still. I really need to start the other mini though, so thats for later.
