Hello everyone, you might remember some of my sculpts from about a year ago, I've attatched an image of them, namely; Smaug, Azog, Beorn and a caveman-type character.
Since this I have been working on my craft and am currently working on a dragon which I am very excited about! I've attatched some WIP pics of how it's looking at the moment. I thought I'd post here because Tolkien has always been my biggest inspiration and I'd love it if you find what I'm doing interesting.
For more information about the stuff I've been working on feel free to check out my new blog; http://www.theminiaturesapprentice.com.
Regards,
Martyn

Sometimes I glance over these types of threads and they pass into memory, but WOW! This is quite possibly the best dragon sculpt I've seen that hasn't come from a professional wargames company. I mean, this even surpasses most of GW's output over the last decade or so! Really fantastic, have you ever thought of following down a career-path in this sort of thing, because I would really consider it if I possessed your clearly immense talent for sculpting!! 8)

Thanks for the encouraging comments guys! I've got some update pictures of the sculpting I've done on the dragon over the past couple of days. I've got a good idea in mind of the pose I'm going for with him and it involves the foot of his right leg (the one I've partially sculpted) being perched on something... maybe some building ruins?? Does anyone here have any suggestions of what might look good?

Looks like it should be on something like Kang the Impleccable, a ruined tower, or have him mounted on a rock, about to pounce.

Hey man I was looking for your post when I was sculpting my beorn bear model, It's good to see back active on the site, I just finished a week or two ago my own Smaug model check out my sip to see more, I used a ruin as support for his left leg.
This will make the third sculptor on this site to attempt a full size Smaug sculpt
Natarn was the first then I made mine.
This model is looking really promising, I checked out your website and it is definitely your best dragon to date, you seem to have made great progress from your first Dragon to your second one especially on the wings.

it helps if you use the pdf of the five armies and zoom to 90% on the smaug pictures at that point I used my bilbo to determine the size when he was the same size as the one on the screen I knew I had hit life size mine is the same scale as the gw counter part also

Hi everyone. Gandlaf, I may use the Kang basing as inspiration for this model, Kang is afterall probably the most impressive model I've ever seen. Grungehog, I'm glad to be back, I've been very busy recently. I'm glad you were checking out my Beorn when you were in the process of sculpting yours, I had to check it out on your sight and I was very impressed, you have definitely mastered sculpting the fur which is something I struggled with. You're dragon is immense also, I really like the scaling method you've went for. It's a brilliant feeling when you finish sculpting a dragon, ay?

There is definitely visible improvement in your skill on your blog. I just had a read through. Good luck with your venture. It is a bit hit and miss guaging what you think will sell and what people will actually buy, but it is a nice feeling knowing that others are getting some enjoyment from something you created.

Thanks ukfreddybear, thanks for taking the time to read my blog. I'm not sure how it's all going to go but I'm definitely enjoying it at the moment. I just wanted to have a crack at it while I have the chance.

Things with the dragon are going slower than I'd like as I'm very busy at the moment, but I thought I'd post some progress pics of how it currently stands. I just can't wait to move onto sculpting the wings, although I think I'll be leaving them until last. I'm intending on doing huge wings as I think they make a dragon, the Reign of Fire dragon is a good example of this.

@Morgothsavenger - Your dragon is amazing buddy! Incredible skill.

Re. pics. Try uploading your pictures to photobucket and then copy and pasting the image code into your WIP thread here. Better than using the attachment option.

Keep up the inspiring work.
