Thanks guys... I was a bit apprehensive about painting horses, as I'd heard from a lot of people that they are very hard to get looking right.
I know mine aren't perfect, but I'm pleasantly surprised with how they are turning out.

Horse #3 done... I've also added a bit of grass to the bases for a bit of interest

As a wise Ent once said: Don't be hasty!
It may take some time, but in the end this will be one magnificient army, well worth the many hours that went into it.
(Well, from the point of view of another hobbyist. Outsiders may disagree...)

Thank you Holger, I'm enjoying painting them... Love the unusual armour they have.

Halauas, the bases are pretty simple really. It's just tallarn sand, with seraphim sepia wash. Then just dry brush with tallarn sand and finally dry brush with ushabti bone to highlight.

Coenus, I only have one paint speed..... Slow :) so there's no rushing. You're right though, worth it in the end

Sandstone Painting Guide
Image

I was asked if I could do a short tutorial on my sandstone ruins, so I thought I'd give it a go...

http://www.one-ring.co.uk/kb.php?a=264

It's also the same recipe I use for my bases and pretty much anything sandy so you can use it for more than just scenery.

Hope you find it useful :D

Of all the colours so far, this is by far and away taking the most effort.
Still not massively happy with it but it's getting there

It's one of the most difficult, that's shy but it's looking great. Remember with white that the only pure white you use is the final highlight.

Thanks Gandlaf, yeah there's no pure white on that side at all yet. Lots of different layers of soft greys. I think I'll leave the extreme highlighting until the very end.

Don't think I'll be painting a lot of white horses in the future.

Thanks Harfoot, I'm enjoying painting them. I really like how the armour has turned out.. the coppery gold colour is really eye catching when they're on the table

Thanks guys, it's tricky with a desert theme. I've tried to keep things simple but not boring. Temptation on bases, for me anyway, is to go over the top and have loads of clutter.
