I am also willing to try this, there are to many mini's I wanted to paint, but lack the kick in the ass to actually do it! Well i collect already for a long time, I have not yet painted thorins company + radagast. Also I want to make a small start on a Harad force : a mumak with 12 crew + captain. ( mumak at least two monts ?)

For my tale I would like to paint those. As it is not an really an army, but would it be okay ?
13 dwarves, gandalf, Bilbo & Radagast. so that is 16 models.
I think i can do 2 heroes per month. but that may be a difference per month. Do I understand the rules correctly that one hero per month is the minimum ?
If two per month works out, I want to add the three trolls.

November mumak and 12 crew + captain
december .. mumak and 12 crew + Captain
january : 2 thorin company
february : 2 thorin company
march : 2 thorin company
april : 2 thorin company
may : 2 thorin company
june : 2 thorin company
july : 2 thorin company
august : 1 thorin company & Radagast
september: the Three trolls
october : the three trolls

Let me know if this would be in spirit of the competition, and also I have the same question as erunion, in the less busy months, can I already start on other mini's of this challenge ?

If we can split between two armies, then I'm in, this is just what I need to keep me ticking over during busy times.

I'm struggling to narrow it down to two factions lol.
My largest armies that need painting are
Durin's Folk
Moria
Isengard
Harad
Mordor
Gondor

Harad is probably my "main" but I play every army to keep it interesting.

I'll probably do Dwarves and Moria but Isengard has been my recent project. Ugh lol

Might be cool to do the Dwarves & Moria, so that you've got two competing factions when you're done. Handy for scenario play.

I'll be doing my Gondorians/Fiefdoms I think. Could potentially do so many others like Rohan, Angmar or Mordor but I feel more like Gondor at the moment :P

Sounds really fun! I will have to think a bit about which armies to choose, but I will probably take Dol Amroth/Harad or Arnor/Angmar. Or use this as an excuse to start something completely different, those Khandish chariots have always looked really cool... or maybe dwarves?

How about terrain? Maybe a suitably themed terrain piece could count as a month's work?

+1

I'm really interested in participating, it would give me great motivation to get through some of my backlog :)

I'm not a gamer, I prefer to collect and paint, so I really only get one model of each pose. I have two perfect-on-the-dot 350pt armies, that are nicely themed for me, the defenders of osgiliath, and gothmog's 'horde' (not really a horde, but I'll come up with a different name soon!). The only problem is, I only have 11 months work out of these two armies :x

So, if a terrain display piece would qualify as a months work, then that would be perfect, as I just purchased two sets of the osgiliath ruins, and would love to base each army using them, to show the contrast between the gondor-controlled half and the mordor-controlled half of the city :)

If that is ok, then sign me up please, and I look forward to seeing everyone's armies :)

This looks like an interesting way to motivate myself into expanding my evil army. Im centering it on the mordor list but would like to get it to a point where the individual groups of models are legitimate forces in their own right. I have around 50 orcs already painted so this will be a matter of trying to add on the other units to make it more diverse and varied.

I have a question...Is this like the monthly painting challenges, in that models must not be painted at the beginning of the month? I was looking ahead at the coming year, and I know that I will have some busy months in March and June. I was wondering if I finish the previous month's challenge, can I go ahead and get a jump start on the following month's challenge?

I'm going to go with; yes. But only once in a year and members partaking in the challenge should do no more than 1 additional month of painting. As such, if you paint 2 months of models in one month, the following month should be painting-free (or if you do paint, these will not count towards the next months entry). Does that make sense?

I'm happy to be overruled on that though if the entrants wish a different take on the idea.

As for terrain, happy to have this option in there. Limiting it to more than 2 terrain pieces over the year I feel is necessary to stick to the army theme towards the end of the year. Again, happy to listen to public opinion on this choice.

I have unfortunately been bitten on the bum by work. We have a new contract with National Express meaning frequent visits to Leeds, Portugal and Dubai and as such my free time has once again been limited. I'm not 100% ruling myself out just yet but may have to make a decision as November goes on whether I am likely to be able to continue. Typical I know, but I will still run the event for everyone else.

Can I make sure I'm understanding properly. Is it 1 hero or 8 warriors or 2 mounted etc per month?

The definition of a unit for this is a group of 8 foot warriors, a character (or group of characters if you are going by War Of The Ring, which I do not have to hand so am not following), 2 mounted warriors, or a siege weapon / monstrous creature.

Count me in.

Apologies for what may be obvious to some but what would i need to add to make this qualify as my November entry?
Floi Stonehand, 8 Dwarf Rangers

I do not own any Dwarf cavalry (as there aren't yet any) and my Dwarf ballista I just painted

I think you misunderstand ( or I do :) ) it is 2 cavalry OR, 8 inf. or a minimal of 1 hero/monster/ big thing.

So for november you can do : 1 dwarf hero or 8 dwarf inf.

That's what I thought too but the wording of the OP makes it unclear to me. Idk if it's a large group each month or merely pieces that will in the end make a large group

check the OP it's clear enough for me :

QUOTE : "For example, painting Orcs over the space of the next year I could have 6 mounted Hunter Orcs (3 months) 24 Hunter Orcs (3 months) 16 Gundabad Orcs (2 months) led by Bolg, Azog, Mounted Yazneg and Gundabad Orc Captain (4 months)."

So interpreting this I get to: the minimum requirements for each months are :

8 inf. = 1 month
2 cav = 1 month
1 character (or more) = 1 month
1 monster = 1 month
1 terrain piece (max 2 in this challenge ) = 1 month
