I am a fan of budget terrain (aka painted cardboard). As chiefhugh and I are playing thru the journey books, I thought I should take some time and make some terrain. Here is my build of Balin's Tomb.

I am not a fan of cardboard.

The appearance of cardboard can be enhanced. Try stamps and sponges.
Stamps about 10 minutes in. If you like card one of the best sites on u tube.A fourm and Facebook page too.

This is a stamp and a sponge stamp I made.



The black is glossy because I used a Sharpy. A black paint pen will be flat. I am using a sheet of fruit packing material instead of cardboard because it is flexible and has a texture already.

No worries, i didn't take it as critical. I plan to take a sponge to it, eventually.

What medium do you use?

I like MDF and plywood. I use a lot of styrofoam but I have been casting a lot more resin.I am a fan of Hirst Arts blocks.

Lately I have been trying to get more of my Role Playing friends to go 3D. I have been supporting DM Scotty. Time, tools and money are often limiting factors. Dwarven Forge and Hirst Arts projects often intimidate players. He is very good at demonstrating what is possible with scissors and a hot glue gun.

What is MDF?
In regards to sponges, is there a specific kind that works better? Or can I just open one of the scotbrites I have laying around?

Medium Density Fiberboard. I am sure the Scotbrites will work. I like natural the best.



I used a large round one for the Zuzzy matt.



A collection of bath, dishwashing and craft store, art store sponges.



I purchased the sponge rollers and a few small sponges for the crafting class at the game store. I never know how many kids will be there so it is nice to have lots.
