Thanks for the feedback guys
Over the weekend I managed more work on Durins Causeway - Got the expanding foam trimmed back and then skimmed with plaster. Sadly the side wall with Goblins 'shooting gallery' cause some headache, as it warped whilst drying, so I had to cut all the foam off, and reinforce the back with strips of MDF to straighten it. I have used the opportunity to add an additional base sheet to widen the board to move the side wall further from causeway, by 9", as it looked too close before... Once I glue the side wall into its new position I'll then be able to stick the foam back on (it all came off in one piece.)
I have also experimented with some yellow LEDs under some plastic made into a flame shape, textured with water effects and washed with yellow and orange inks. Seemed to work OK, so that's the flames in the gullies at the base of the causeway more or less sorted, in principle.
Finally for the weekend made a start on eight pillars for the Dwarrowdelf (thanks to a heads up from Celevue on rough dimensions to go with). I looked over various sources for a good look for the overlapping pointed layers at the base of the pillars, and whilst trying to replicate exactly what was in the movie, I think its going to be a case of 'thats near enough'! I just about went cross eyed trying to figure it out!
The Khazad Dum bridge board, got its bridge glued into position. Just now have to cut a piece out of it that will be removable to represent the bridge being destroyed... Pondering now about an entry and exit for this board... some dwarf-styled doors in a rock wall at one end and stairs up and out at opposite side...
I am also thinking on, or should that be back, to Balins Tomb. I made a very basic tomb board, again following FOTR journey book guide, many years ago, but seeing what Celevue has done with his, has once again got me thinking on making a new better board...
I guess the final goal maybe to try and physically join the three boards and dwarrowdelf section in between, altogether - playing the 3 scenarios as one long mission! Or perhaps I'm just a little crazy!?
I must admit having finally sourced sheets of styrofoam , plus a hot wire foam factory cutting tool set has really broadened my mind into whats possible to make now. Of course the final issue is going to be storage...
One thing I realised, after I had done it, was once I glued the widened base sheet to causeway board - there's no way it will now fit through a regular domestic doorway! Thankfully I'm making it in the garage and the adjacent games-room has a double wide ranch-slider type door to outside! Otherwise that could have been a bugger!
On the model painting front I have got the Hobbits Ale cart and hobbits base painted and shade washed, and also the 24 uruk scouts the same... Radagast from the Ltd Ed Hobbit set is also half done, just needs final highlights... and the Hobbit Trolls have been assembled...
I even managed time for a game with my son, though we played a game of Pirates using LotHS rules (A lotr sbg derivative). A simple ship to ship boarding action. Lots of fun, then we had a look at using the tentacles from the Watcher if the Water as Kraken tentacles to use with the pirates and their ships - that's going to be fun too... sorry to digress!
Sorry no pictures at this time, been a bit too busy as you can probably tell? More to follow soon I hope.
Cheers
