Fell Beasts seem very underpointed to me.

Completely agree. Less than 65 pts for adding that movement, defense, and attacks to a Ringwraith! One Dark Marshall on Fell Beast was about 50% of the reason I lost one game in a tournament when we almost fought to a draw.

I feel like (and everyone may not agree with me on this of course) that the simple solution to units like Watchers of Karna and the like is to have some sort of force organization that prevents you from spamming them. I only own 3 so in our games no one minds them much at all

Yeah I completely agree. I've discussed many a time the idea of only allowing 33% of your warriors to be 'elites' essentially just like your bow limit. It would obviously need a sourcebook revision or FAQ to classify which warriors were classed as elites but would be simple, effective ad would nicely deal with Watchers, Ferals, Reavers, Fountain Court, Khazad Guard etc. and many of the elite spam lists.

Just my 2 cents.

I hate to burst your guys bubble, and I agree with this, but this will never happen.

You realize the reason they let people put so many in an army with cool abilities and no limit is because they are the most expensive units $$$ and they make money off em. They dont make money off bowmen generally.

It certainly doesn't "burst my bubble" I don't expect GW to make any future updates to their books. However a self - imposed list created and tinkered with by the community could accomplish the same. If Dr Grant were in agreement as well as a few others who might want to join we could attempt to tackle just that. That is of course if anyone believes TO's might actually enforce such organization restrictions

Would be tough to come up with agreed upon amount of units that are elites. Youd have to designate a basic troop for all armies, and then everything else is elites pretty much.

I guess as Dr Grant said to me about the Mirkwood Rangers, the GBHL made a rule for them, but then again, thats for 1 country that plays this game.

Sucks being in the US in terms of this game.

True but we have a good start with the WOTR core rulebook. If we borrowed ideas from there and tweaked it slightly then we'd have a great base for "common v Elites" also not every faction would have elites. The Eastern Kingdoms is IMO too small a Force and too limited to require any sort of organisational restrictions

Well I would say what are they called? Black Dragons already qualify as elites.

Personally arguments like that would come up constantly. But I do see what youre saying.

But that's a discussable point that I'd be willing to concede. Projects like this just need cool heads willing to listen to good points. Which is why I mentioned Damian, he comes across as just that

Oh yeah for sure I totally agree. I think in most cases locally will be the best choice.

Personally, my buddy, who never played the old LOTR and he still hates the move and shoot penalty lol.

But anyway to stay on topic....I dont see why so many people think reavers are the most overpowered.

Against a smart opponent you can still get shot to pieces. Or other abilities....cavalry charge......theyre good but not that op. just the fight value.

As to reavers I think it's the deployment really. Starting (typically) so close helps nullify their prospective weaknesses.

Limiting elites would hurt some armies who already struggle.
Easterlings (black dragons)
Dol Amroth (swan knights)
Durin's Folk (Khazad and iron)

All the above mentioned are obviously very effective/op. I think Black Numenoreans are also op but possibly not to the extent of some of these other models. If you conpare them to a Durin's Folk dwarf, an already effective model, the are one point more expensive and gain 1" of movement & terror both of which I think are worth about 2 points. Of course they can't get D7 but 1" of movement can make a hell of a difference and terror is such a useful special rule, all for one point!

@ James true but at the very least they are 2 turns of bow fire and probably 3. Then at best people can make sure they don't get to combat for longer. Bit I understand that deployment does vastly help them.

@ cereil....since when does durins folk struggle? D7 on most regular troops if you prefer good heroes that are definitely worth their pts. Enough power with how's if need be and a varying range of special rules.

@ Narsil good point. I never thought of them particularly overwhelming but yeah I did notice they're a great pt value for what they offer. I have 9 and since its an odd number I wasn't sure if In wanted to trade or sell or keep them.

I tried them in one battle against minis tirith rohan and elves and their terror stopped like 20 charges in game. Even several against elves. Priceless really.

Obviously not, but that's not the only judge of an army's strength. The tourney's are skewed towards speed a bit now, which the Dwarves obviously have none. Which would be less irritating if they hadn't given Elves cavalry

I disagree, the tournaments are a crucible for lists.

Even in the source book missions they didn't win before, the last time Durin's folk were competative was in legions as a part of the khazad, saruman, fountain court guard list.

I am not saying they are useless but they are at a handy cap at the moment.
