So I've got my Sauron.... How best to smash faces with him?

Pretty straight forward really. Never played with any of the big point monster-types before and are looking for tips and tricks and how to make best with that loveable mace-sweep attack. To one-ring or not to one-ring?

Any pointers would be appreciated.

Just do this especially to Riggs elves

But the one ring is like a 2+ fate save you get for your last wound so it's pretty good

It seems like an auto include with the One-Ring. If one is already investing
X-hundreds-pts why not put in X-extra-pts to get a 2+ Invulnerable Save.

Will be interesting to see how he goes when he comes up against Mounted Gil-Galad, Glorfindel, Elrond, Twins and legolas all at once lol.

I was thinking of matching him up with my Berserker spam list at 1000pts if I can even get that many uruks in lol. Take him by himself at 500pts. I don't need that extra 50pts! Bah!

I once played a 2 on 1 with him against 1500 points and he killed everything while only losing 1 wound

Make sure you use his channelled chill soul spell. Alot of people forget about it, but if you cast it against defense 5 or less units, or units of cavalry, you will kill dozens of models with ease. Just make sure you target units where there is no one to resist (or at least sap the will of the heroes in the area)

I have one advice: kill em!

Probably he is the most OP model in the game, that's also a reason he cannot be used in tournaments.

That's certainly an option. I'm not a huge fan of spending his might to kill troops. They're no threat to Sauron

I don't play tournaments, I just think that's the most hilarious thing I've read. He's the title character (or was, before it was re-branded to the Hobbit), and he's not allowed!

Nope, you must have funny organisers over in greece. There are no official banned models so unless the TOs say otherwise, you can take any model you want. Even Tom Bombadil and Goldberry.

I'm not sure about the bigger tournaments, but the 500pts in Australia will generally ban him, not really much fun I think is the reason.

I can see why now. Played my first game at 700pts with him tonight with my opponent "happily" going along with coming up against Sauron.

My List:
- Sauron(one ring)
- Saruman + Grima mounted.
(About 665pts)

Opponent's list:
- Treebeard
- Radagast
- Eowyn + Riders
- Grimbold + generic Captain, banner, blobs of warriors of rohan

Really didn't even need Saruman and Grima, they didn't even do anything failing to cast the whole game with Saruman. After "Sap Will"-ing the Will out of Radagast and Treebeard I Channeled-Transfixed Treebeard then proceeded to smash his face in with the Dark Lord.

Long story short and several mace sweeps later my opponent forfeited after i walked through some warriors, into treebeard who was then bludgeoned into the Dark Lord's new cloak stand.

Was not a particularly fun game. Sweeping men off the board like leaves in the wind. Maybe more enjoy against a certain High Elf though...

@templar_tony: What scenario did you play? If your oppenent does not need to kill Sauron he isn't that over powered. The problem is if you just have less than 4 models you can't get under 25%

And he can only transfix one hero in a turn. So just call a heroic strike with one of the not transfixed heros.

But he's Sauron. Under that helm is a honey badger. So he don't care!

Lords of Battle.

My opponent was wheeling his horsemen+infantry around firing at Saruman who was exposed on his Left side (sorry I don't have any pictures) with Grima on horse on his right to act as mobile cover lol and the Dark Lord in front. Making use of cover in terrain as I went.

A triangle of villans moving about. I kept my distance with the villains until he had no Will to resist my transfix. With only 3 models on my side the game moved rather quick.

With both Radagast and Treebeard Will-zapped to zero after several turns the Dark Lord went in for the kill. Treebeard managed to throw a couple of stones but in the end once his Will was depleted there was no stopping the Dark Lord.

A good game at least to get myself familiar with his destructive power. Sap will is just so mean. :twisted:

Why throwing stones? Run toward Sauron, hope call a heroic move and attack Sauron and Saruman at the same time. Then try to transfix Sauron or make a heroic strike to win against Sauron and then pray for luck with the dices.
An other option would be first trying to take out Saruman (should be easy because Radaghast can transfix him, before Saruman can see him). If you have the initiative yoo don't have to worry about Sauron transfixing anybody.
Of cause you need luck to beat him, but there are strategys to do.
