I play with an isengard army. And noticed the troll points are roughly same as 10 uruk scouts. Any troll tips would be great.

The one time I have ever been glad I brought deffy(yes. That is his name. And my cave troll is called killy. Why not?) Over a cave troll was when I fought a mumak. It smashed half my army, then hit deffy but was stopped.

I was pitted against a fully armed and armored troll. Gildor transfixed him and my woodelves filled him full of shrukens. He never got a hit off. He never played a troll again.

I took one to the latest tournament for a laugh. Had lots of fun with him hurling models everywhere. The trick is to have a line of infantry either side of him for protection. If you allow him to get surrounded he will quickly fall to the sheer amount of dice being rolled due to him being trapped.

like Freddy said and like you saw what I did with my army you have to make sure you keep them covered so that they are only fighting a few men at a time and pretty much they are worth the points personally though I would only take them with Mordor or Moria because I isengard has already a ton of really tough units whereas those other two have really soft units. Plus with mordor and Moria you can where cheaper troops whereas most isengard is already 9-10 and a lot or mordor and Maria can be like 4-9

It's actually debatable now, thanks to the monster rules. Before those were created, most monsters were not worth the equivalent number of Uruks/ Orcs/ Goblins.

Brutal power attacks. Another bad thing about trolls:they make VERY big targets.ask tauriel and her twelve mirkwood rangers....

I got around that by giving him an escort across the board with mounted Grima, whom good models cannot shoot past if he is in the way. (Sorry Will Poynter)

The Hobbit rules have new monster attack options, which makes them pretty useful.

I've used him in a battle recently, 3 Warbands led by 2 Captains and one Shaman, each with a supplement of a few warriors (60-40 mix of shields and pikes) and 3 Berserkers.

As said in a post above, the trick is to not let him fight on his own. (And with the new models with spears/pikesmay support all base-sizes) His high defence makes him pretty decent, and with the new Brutal Power Attacks make him a good addittion to an Isengard force.

When up against a large force, find an anchorpoint to lodge him in and keep the enemy at bay, he can even shield(because he has one, giving him 6 dice!) keep models to the side so he can't be surrounded and you'll be glad to have him around. When the time comes an additional Hurl or Barge will make your day.

A smaller but more elite force will still make him a tough nut to crack, high def. and high fight will keep him in there. Just make sure you'll be able to support the rest of your Uruks, as they'll probably do worse against a more elite foe.

(i hope you understand what i'm trying to explain)

Finally, the best way is give him a try against multiple enemies, big and small and see if you like playing with him.
