cool. Thanks for the opinion. I decided I can make the warg better, and so also put the orc to better use. quickly just did this.

Very much a shield-wall pose - I like it.

I love what you've done with the Orc from the Great Beast! Makes me think about something similar...

Thanks everyone.

I kind of got lucky in an unlucky way. I bought the Beast of Gorgoroth and it came with two driver sprues and two of the rock throwing guy sprue. So I had 10 models but only 6 sculpts (4 having doubles). So I made a stink about it (wrote polite email with pictures of what ones I got, and about having to get this fixed) and they sent me an entire new crew, all 10. I still have another one of this driver, since the spear arms come on a different sprue, I don't have his weapons hands. So I will have to convert another one. I was thinking of making a supply wagon, not sure what would pull it that would be acceptable.

Cirith Ungol Update.
I am currently making instamolds for the crenellations and windows and stuff. I don't know how many castings I will get in an instamold, but I was willing to learn anyway. I know I will not make a true to the film version, I looked at it, there are idea's in it that I may borrow, but I don't have weta skills nor tools, nor budget. I looked at the Atlas of Middle Earth with the three level version Tolkien put forth, I like that as it gives me some more wiggle room to make my own creation. If this works out though, I will be ready to start thinking bout considering looking into Hurst art blocks. :-D

There are 18 pages of drawings of Cirith Ungol in The Art Of The Return Of The King by Gary Russell. This photo of Alan Lee's drawing during pre production design are on page 126 and 127. My favorite version is on 121.

There are a few illustrations of Cirith Ungol In Alan Lee's Sketchbook. Cirith Ungol is on the cover.

It will look a lot like that pic on the left. Thanks for sharing that. My three tier base for the tower is coming out at 18" high. Perfect for the 20" tower to sit on. Working on it now.

Excellent work! The Orc conversion is great, very dynamic as others have said. I prefer it like this over the one that was standing on the Warg. The Warg looks very good by the way, great job on sculpting him! :yay:

I find that Lotrscenerybuilder's projects are inspirational.

This has a lot of gaming potential.

Legolas for the comp.
I wanted to say more about this entry I did.
I used a grey prime coat, I never did that before. I like it.
I followed a few rules I break often which is to work one section/color at a time to completion (or near) and fixed mistakes as I go as much as possible. I also kept the skin blends to a minimum to look fair skinned and young, I think it worked this time at least.
I wet my paints a lot this time, I will be getting a wet pallet for sure, but I really liked glazing the layers on this model.
I feel I grew a bit with this model. I hope I can improve more moving forward and thinking about my colors more.
I painted the flowers onto some sponge flock, they look ok, wasn't sure it would work. lots of new ground for me. and a good guy model, yikes.
anyway, as seen in the Hobby Challenge;

I have been comparing this to your work at the beginning of this thread and you can see the improvement, the colours look smoother and the cartoonish look on page 1 is disappearing.
The blending on the face is very smooth, faultless I fact and my only critique would be to go a touch darker with the shading to create a little more definition.
The clothing is great with again that smooth look, with again a little darker around the bottom of the blue skirt and around the waist area.
Overall though you are right, you've made some great leaps forward with this figure and I am impressed.
Have you looked at OSL ?that could be a way forward for you.

That is a great rendition of Legolas. The only minute tweak I would contemplate is to add a little moss on the tree stump.

Looks pretty good. A little more contrast in the face would really take it up a notch. Consider a glaze around the cheeks and ears, and maybe a highlight for the cheekbones, nose and eyebrow?

If painting a model ever becomes a hassle instead of quiet, relaxing enjoyment after a hard days work and a afternoon chasing my toddler, well then I will hang up the brush. Since I would then lose my mind, I think it is better that I take these small steps toward being a better painter and enjoy it. :)
But, I think I will remove the model from the competition and wait until I can paint to a higher standard, at my rate that will be another 10 years. :E
I removed the entry, I won't have time to do any serious work on it. oh well.
