Love all the metal orcs and the ragtag colors. The freehand on the banner is very nice as well.

The Warg Chieftain conversion looks nice, however, I think it would look better if the head matched the body. I think it would tie it together as a whole.

Probably, but I liked the scheme the GW team used for the Warg Chieftain. Maybe I should lighten the paws to carry the color around the model? Not sure I'd like that either...

Oh, well... The rest of the pack is underway and I'm not sure I'd want to repaint all the faces as that is the most time consuming part so they are probably stuck!

Looks really nice and has nice gritty and worn look to the miniatures which suit them well.

Cheers

One of the better warg conversions and painting I've seen. The fur in particular looks good.

Great skintone on the orcs.
I like how they're still recognizable as a whole although they have different skintones.

Thanks, guys!

I find the trick to painting irregulars is to stick to a limited pallet. Besides the various flesh tones, all of the orcs are dressed in various combinations of red, black, and brown (two shades).

I varied the colors slightly further by painting the highlights in varying degrees of coverage. For example the dark brown uses Rhinox Hide over a black undercoat, blocked in with Doombull Brown (leaving the Rhinox showing only in the shadows and folds), and blended final highlights with Tuskgor Fur. On other models I treated the black as the base and blended the Rhinox on as the first highlight. I still used Doombull Brown and Tuskgor Fur on top of these, but to a lesser degree, with the Tuskgor Fur being simple sharp edge highlights.

The end result is a very unified feel without being uniform!

The first Nazgul from the stables...

I also have the Dwimmerlaik and the Witch-King, but I just love the pose of these models... Yes, I know this is the least favorite of many as far as rules go...

Very inspirational! I have one in my backlog and I like the way you painted these eerie robes. Well done!

Great job, what colour did you use to highlight him?

Heh... This model was a bugger to paint. It was more difficult to get the result I wanted than I anticipated. All paints were Citadel...

1. I painted the entire model with Chaos Black, drybrushed the model with Dark Reaper, and carefully painted the sharpest edges with Thunderhawk Blue.

2. Then I painted the glowing effect by drybrushing over roughly half of the lower model with Stegadon Green. I also highlighted the lower third of the upper cloak and hood (shows best on the mounted guy from this angle... You can see the lower robes blend toward black and the upper hood and cloak start a new highlight). I blended some of this color into the folds of the lower robes as well. Then I used successively less coverage layers of Soten Green and Temple Guard Blue. Finally I painted the sharp edges of these areas with Baharroth Blue and a final whisper of Skink Blue.

3. The end result was too bright! I washed the entire model with Nuln Oil...

4. ... and repeated the highlight steps of step one and the entire process of step three (with a more controlled hand the second time around).

5. Matt varnish the robes... I use Vallejo Matt Model Color.

I didn't add the normal weathering I've been using because I didn't want to spoil the effects of the blue/green. Maybe The Tainted is fastidiously tidy!

Very nice, in fact if it wasn't for the conversion, I's swear they were 'Eavy Metal, they seriously look like them. spot on :yay:

If your thinking of gaming with the Tainted though - don't.

Awesome Nazgul, he really looks eerie!

No reason he couldn't be used as a regular Ringwraith, though. I agree, The Tainted is by far the worst of the named Nazgul. Before AND after the change over to Warbands and then the new Hobbit rules.

Buhrdur...

This brute will probably lead my Angmar forces if there are no Nazgul present (or just the Tainted). Two more trolls on the way...

Thanks, Guys!

Here are some more wild wargs for the Chieftain...

Image

I have intentions to double the size of this warband (my FLGS finally managed to get another box).

Hmm, it's really weird that their faces are a different colour, and it looks weird when you paint the light fur as bare skin, but I have no qualms about the painting quality, they look nice, and the group shot improves them via internal consistency.
