Does any one know if the above is true? I have dreaded this for some time!

I certainly hope not! I'm literally only days away from purchasing some LOTR metals from their site

I have no idea if this is more speculation or already a fact. The day will come if it is not all ready here. A Sad day :(

If this is true I’m absolutely horrified to imagine what the bidding activity on eBay will look like.

Why does GW have to throw it out, why not just stop making and sell out?

WHY?

On the one hand I'm relieved I panic bought every metal mini I honestly need and can't convert/proxy. We knew this grim and dark (grimdark?) day would come, and i suspect GW recent performance has left them with little choice but to sell the metal and make as much money as possible.

On the other hand OHGODWHATWHYYOUBASTARDS.

I personally would appreciate a bit of notice, even if its managed panic buying

If the scrap value is high, its still going to be no where near as high as buying a manufactured miniature! It might be a way of short term boosting profit!

I think it may be a rumor. However, we will know soon enough.

Haha -disregarding for a second the fact that it's just a rumor- I was about to place a large order containing a number of metals; imagine if everything got discontinued a day before my purchase.

I think it's nonsense, bandied about by people who don't understand business. A dropping share price does not make you cash poor, or in need of liquid capital. They would be throwing profit away, and the one thing they really need at the moment is profit.
Their current metal stock is a cash asset- why would they take 10p per model when they can sell them for £7.50 a model? They'll just slowly sell out of everything until there's so little left that it's a logistical problem to supply it.

Does anyone really believe that..... 'trucks left to melt down all the figures they created for all that money'.....that doesn't even sound close to true.

This thread really needs to have the word "RUMOUR" put in the title.

Yeah this isn't really a positive or helpful thread. We have know that GW wants to move away from metal for a while (hence finecast), but this does nothing except make people nervous and grumpy with GW.

I'd almost even request a thread lock, but everyone has their opinion and mine is that it would be poor management to be ordering then selling "truckloads" of metal. That would cost them 100's and 1000's of $ in lost income as well as having to get the stuff transported again, I think they'd make more by making minis out of it, even if it does "take up warehouse room".

I do however seriously wonder if it was G.W. a management initiated leak to start panic buying of old metal models, which would increase there profits.

Also by setting of an untraceable rumour they can avoid any problems with their licence with Warner, by selling stuff covered by IP parts of the licence but not part of the current film range that they are supposed to promote.

I understand that this thread can be viewed as negative, but that's life. When reporting rumours and news they tend to be good or bad dependent upon your stand point. We cannot have a moratorium on reporting news and rumours in an appropriate thread because they potentially represent bad news!

Also if this is true, which I have absolutely no authority on, it is important as if the community want's a last chance at buying LOTR metal models, this would appear to be it.

After this its inflated prices on e-Bay and getting lucky at boot fairs!

Unlikely. Their management is so stagnant I doubt that they'll ever do anything like this.
If only they'd release certain metals as plastics (cough) that would be newsworthy, or even rumourworthy. This is just plain panic making. Course I could be wrong,,,
