Over on the blog I write for I've been documenting my journey into the Hobbit range of miniatures. I'm an amateur photographer and love setting up little scenes. The above shots show the test models I've been painting for my hunter orcs and mirkwood elves. I've written a tutorial for how I painted the elf and I plan to do the same for the hunter orcs on wargs.

Bookmark this thread and keep checking back as I post more photos in this WIP thread.

I think this is a very cinematic photo; and certainly your painting enhances its effect. Yet I am not sure which of the two versions I prefer!
The dead Orcs on bases are a nice idea, but maybe they could have worked better without bases? I also like how you have used some warm colors for contrast.

Thanks for uploading the picture, and keep them coming!

Stupendous photography! It really brings out every detail on the minis.

Garfy! Love your tutorials over on ToP! I actually went out and bought all the paints listed after reading your Grimhammers article (now if only they weren't buried under a metric ton of other minis). Nice to see you on here. Paint work is excellent, of the highest standard.

For anyone else reading this thread, you really should check out his photography of the trolls. Amazing.

Great stuff Garfy!

Wonderful! These miniatures are so cool and you're doing an excellent job modelling & painting them. Keep up the good work!

Work on the Hunter Orcs on Wargs was interrupted as I produced a tutorial on how to paint Wargs. This is the first tutorial of two. The second one will be posted soon and will detail how to paint hunter orcs.

Completed picture of the Wargs to come in the next couple of days. Watch this space.

What design are you planning to put on the banner?

It's a brown banner that has had lighter browns stippled on. Then i've painted three parallel lines that follow the flow of the banner. If you watch the Hobbit and pause it at 50 mins 53 seconds you can see some orc banners on the left.

New pictures of my Hunter Orcs are now live on the blog Tale of Painters. For those who don't visit the blog (that's cool), I'll post the best shot here now.
