Ages ago when i played the game (not SBG but War of the Ring) I remember people on the SBG side of things complaining that Numenor was useless and broken. Is this true? And has this remained so?

And if not... what 500 pts list would you advice? Both heroes in it?

Nothing has changed for the better, and now with warbands I'd say it's a bit worse. Admittedly I can't speak from experience, but on paper it doesn't look great. The heroes are expensive and you can no longer take only one with a boat-load of warriors...their cost used to make up for their other drawbacks a bit. Even if you took only captains of Numenor and no big heroes, you'd still get easily slaughtered by Uruk-hai.

Ebay is your friend, I have just about got what I need for a numenorian force now as they won my 'who is the underdog army' vote.

Its not all bad news though, the models can be found and for not too much money if you're patient and persistent. The army itself has some very well armoured high fight value heroes and the basic warrior isn't bad.

Probably never going to take the power gamer mantle but reckon they'll be a fun force.

Yeah though i have noticed quite the unexpected drought on ebay.
Both for Dunlendings and Numenorans.

I did a post suggesting 2 lists, not sure where it went.
At 500pts, you want either 3 full warbands led each by a captain and a banner, or 2 full warbands including Elendil and/or Isildur with maybe a captain and any warriors you can afford.
Isildur on horse will be a pain to get, though him and Elendil on foot seem to be very common on ebay.

Numenor is horrible.

You have Elindil and Isildur, who yes are good, but thats it.
Then you have generic captains.
And then only warriors.

You literally have 3 choices for heros, and none for troops.

Best bet is to ally it with High Elves, and if you can I believe with Arnor. I think you can. Maybe the fiefdoms too, but Im not sure.......

With the Fiefdoms and Arnor you have a good mix of archery, cavalry, heros, and other uniques.

Isildur is amazing for the points - still very interesting Ring tactics possible - leading 12 Fight 4 spears. That's it...usefulness ends there IMHO. Ally with cheap Minis Tirith shields for the F4 support.

For 500 points:

Isildur, Beregond, Damrod: 37 models; a 16 unit F4, D6 shield wall

For 700 points, picture:

Isildur, Monkey Twins and Malbeth: 40 units.

Islidur, Arathorn, Bergond, Damrod : 53 units (or Malbeth for theme...)

For 750 points, elves get viable:

Islidur, Elrond, Linder, Arwen: 36 units

Or perhaps take an army with Elendel, Isildor, Arathorn and Aragorn oh and Malbeth and Eorl the young just in case we left any periods of middle earth history out. :P

All I hear on these forums is that Numenorians and to a lesser extent high elves suck due to a lack of options. High elves definately don't suck but they have access to more heroes and can rock the best of fight value and armour.
Numenorians do have very limited options, those options are not bad but its all they have available. Their armour is moderate, the fight value higher than average. They bring more numbers than the more elite armies or at least bring a fair number of warriors even if you do take both of their named heroes.
Both named heroes have great stat lines, low on fate points but brilliant armour to make up for it.

If you want a numenorian force, go for it. If you want a more powerful army, perhaps look at ones that have more options, though numenorians should be a solid enough force if used well.

Allying high elves in also adds in a lot of variety and is probably a more powerful combination than Numenor on its own.

You can easily use the new Dale warriors, they have the same stats/points costs as the warriors of Numenor and they have no great heroes to lead them... but in the end it's all what you'd like to play.
