Oh hello there. So I've been tinkering with my lists for the last few days and I think I'm fine with model count and warriors. I am struggling however with my hero selection.

I originally wanted to use The Golden King, but I may save him for higher point games. I decided on Suladan as he's really the only other model that is decent for a leader.

I'm having trouble deciding on the other 2 heroes. I think Haradrim chieftains are weak, just armour and no shield ( I never take the spear and I think he's still better fighting then shooting so bow is out of the question). so I'm not quite certain his usefulness. For +10 pts I can get a Corsair Captain with shield and throwing daggers with the same stats + better fight and possibly of piercing strikes special rule.

For +15 points I can get a taskmaster, which I am considering.
For +10 pts I can get a mahud tribesmaster with shield that has one less courage but strength 5 and Defense 6.

I guess I should tell you a rundown of my list.

For the most part it'll be 3 warbands and I'll be using these models mostly (dependant on hero selection)

5-6 Serpent Riders to accompany Suladan or Mahud if I mount him (impaler + lance)
5-6 Serpent Guard
3 Abrakhan guard
3 Watchers of Karna
18 Haradrim ( haven't decided spear to bow ratio)

So these are my dilemmas. How many bows to take, if I should take any at all with the nerfs to shooting, but the negatives and scenarios starting warbands close to each other. Who's going to lead my cavalry Suladan or the possibly Mahud. Suladan would do well with my foot contingent for his 12" range and the mahud seems like a really decent killer, low fight but adequate defense and Str 5 with +1 to wound on charge. I'm just not sure why someone would take a chieftain when they can get someone superior for a few extra points.

You are bang on the money about chieftains, I play against Harad alot so know a fair bit about their strengths weaknesses - I would take a Corsair captain and a taskmaster as your secondary heroes.

So you think the captains higher fight and courage is better than the mahud's strength and defense?

Yes, although you can always take a Mahud king and have the best of both worlds.

Sounds like you are set...but a Fell Beast at this points level would wreck havoc.

32 units 6 might 499 points 12 best evil bows, a 12 unit line of Fight 4 with 3 attacks.

Probably too late in your planning to consider, but I thought I'd throw it out.

Are bows even worth it anymore? I feel like the only ranged model I'd use is wood elf with bow and blade. Anything else has too high of a shoot value and too low missile strength.

Yeah they're worth it, but personally only if you have strength 3 or higher ranged weapons or are harad.

Harad shooting can still be absolutely devastatating, particularly if you include a large group of Watchers of Karna. The combination of 3+ to hit on the Watchers, 4+ on everything else, 50% bow limit and poison to re-roll wounds is incredibly powerful. I've seen them outshoot Wood Elf armies many times.

On a more general note I'd say bows are definitely still worth it as long as your base shoot value is 4+ or better, which yours is.
