The One Ring is 10!

Today marks the 10th anniversary of the official launch of the One Ring. Many happy returns ol' chap.

This calls for a party surely?

Throughout the month we will be hosting a number of small events in order to celebrate the birthday of this website that has grown to be a part of many of our lives over the years.

We will have a re-release of the One Ring dice*, a 'Best Of' awards for the members to vote for their favourite in each category, purple names being dished out and a couple more surprises with prizes still to be decided. So keep your eyes and ears peeled...

Before I finish, I would like to send my thanks to silvertiggie and silverscott as well as Dagorlad for making the One Ring happen and keeping it here and thriving after all these years.

Once again, Happy birthday to the One Ring. Let's make it a good one.

*One Ring dice are obtained to order so will need to be paid for in advance. The cost for 8 dice is £5 GBP.

The £5 can be paid by using the donate button which will be added to the site shortly - please please (I can't stress this enough) when making your donation, include your One Ring username and which colour dice you are ordering (Red or Blue) in the notes section or we won't know who has ordered what.

Once the 10 year anniversary celebrations are over on 15/02/14 then the dice will be dispatched as soon as possible afterwards. There will be a limited amount of sets available, details to follow. An announcement thread for the Dice will be posted in the coming days.

Happy Birthday One Ring!

Great idea releasing the dice again, I need to go and forage I can’t remember what colour mine are (I got a set of OR dice in one colour and a set of TLA in the other).

I don't know half of you half as well as I should like, and I like less than half of you half as well as you deserve, but here's to another ten years of OR! (Of course by this time it'll be nigh on impossible to get your hands on a plastic orc but we'll cross that bridge when we come to it!)

Ten years is a long long time to run a community website, but it seems to have past in the blink of an eye. I want to thank a number of people for contributing along the way.

Thanks to all of the members, past and present. Without you this site would be nothing.

Specifically, these people have all been a part of the moderation team at some point and I can't thank them enough for their help and guidance ...

Happy birthday One Ring! It has been an honour and a joy to have been a member here for 8.5 of its 10 year history. I have blossomed from a guy who had never been into a games workshop, used a small paintbrush or sculpting tool to an avid collector, part time gamer and proficient sculptor. I have made many friends along the way and have sadly lost some too, but that's life I guess. I am very pleased to still be enjoying this hobby we all love. Many first age Ringers have fallen by the wayside and I almost did too, but thanks to several encouraging members here I found my mojo again and now things are looking very bright indeed. Thanks to Dagorlad for keeping this site going out of his own pocket.

Happy Birthday us! It's the shame I've only been (somewhat) active over the past one year, but I've liked the site a lot. Cool to hear some events will be taking place to celebrate it! Also, the One Ring dice sound great, I'll likely try to get my hands on some.

Funny thing, by the way, is that my first Goblins are also turning 10 around this time! BGiMe came to the Netherlands, I remember it well.

A couple of other I should have mentioned, but slipped my mind.

Two people who taught me how to moderate a forum, by patient and calm examples...

KhamulTheEasterling and ABBCampbell from the old GW forums.

Both of these two guys have had an indirect influence here on the One Ring that cannot be underestimated - they have helped set the tone for fairness and even-handedness when it comes to moderation. I try to follow their examples every day here.

Happy Birthday, One Ring! I can't believe how the time has flown. I've had my hobby ups-and-downs, but you have remained a constant source of support and inspiration. I have been a member of several online communities over the years, and I have never seen one so civil and uplifting as this place.

I would like to thank all of the Admins and Moderators who have worked to keep this place running smoothly, and have sacrificed their personal time to make this the best LotR community on the planet. I would also like to say thank you to the many members who provide content, support, and encouragement to each other.
