so, my very first thread in the one ring after coming over from TLA...

I really wanted to biuld an army around azog and the hunter orcs, possibly adding some gundabad orcs when they release. so this is what i came up with (note that i dont actually have ANY of the models and this thread is to deside wich ones to start bying)

at 500 pts I think this would look good

warband 1
fimbul on a fell warg
6x hunter orcs on fell wargs

warband 2
narzug
12x hunter orcs

warband 3
yazneg on fell warg with lance
7 hunter orcs with bows
1 hunter orc with bow and war horn
4 hunter orcs with two handed weapon

i don't really want to mix any mordor orcs in there, i like the theme
i also thing that azog is a bit of an overkill at 500 pts... on the other hand though this is where he will most likely shine because he'll not be facing a lot of magic or big heroes...
any advice is more than welcome

Ok a few points from moi:

Use the Yazneg model as a hunter orc captain, more effective cos of the 3 attacks when on the ground.
Don't use the hunters on warg, use a mix of hunter orcs on foot and fell wargs.

I don't have much experience using them as an army but I've played a few games with Azog on the White Warg recently (fluffy suff against Thorin's Company) and he's an absolute BEAST in combat, particularly if you can get him to charge. He was cutting through the dwarves in swathes, assuming he wins the likely F10 Heroic Strike roll-off he's the best hero killer in the game.

His D5, 1F let's him down but if you can keep him alive until the sides clash he's really hard to stop.

In-game strength aside, I'd go for him for for another couple of reasons:

1) Theme and fluff, if you like the idea if an Azog's hunters army then you've gotta have the pale Orc himself!

2) You don't have any models yet! Getting the Pale Orc on the table will mean you're almost halfway to your 500 point total.

Joe's right about Yazneg, I'd now only use his named profile if you're including Azog, if not just take him as a Hunter Orc captain on foot (if your group are still ok with that).

Not gonna run exact numbers but I'd go for something like this (built with a minimum cash spend in mind):

Azog on the white Warg
6 Hunter Orcs on Wargs

Yazneg
12 hunter orcs

Think that's about 25 points short but you could add in some bows, a banner, horn some Fell Wargs etc. it may not be the most competitive list but it'll be damn fun to use and look cool.

I myself am now planning on starting a Hunter Orc army purely based entirely on how much I enjoyed painting Azog, I alway think you should follow your heart/theme rather than a competitive build when starting a new army.
