That was a trap-door spider, it was very accurate to the real thing.

I'm thinking Tauriel's special for bonus attacks should be given to Bombur instead after seeing his DOMINATION in the BOB scene (or as i refer to his actions as the "pin-ball" scene lol)

Weird, i have never seen that kind of trapdoor spider.

In addition to Master Smaug, I think the Bouncing Battle Bombur will most definitely be making an appearance.

My daughter was like " cool trap door spider" at the movie. But then she does watch a lot of nature channel. I believe she is correct in this case. I hate to think how much Smaug will cost. Might have to remortgage. :)

I'll have to rewatch to see that it is a trapdoor spider, I guess...

What i saw in the cinema had a segmented body, a large head plate, 4 fangs, and a hell of a lot more legs than a spider.
My deduction is it was a giant centipede that Bilbo stabbed through the head!

I'm not sure exactly what kind of creature it was, but I kind of viewed it as some-what 'innocent'. As in, I think it was there to show how the ring has influenced Bilbo to the point where he will murder an innocent creature to keep the ring.

That was how i saw it as well. Corrupted, possibly, but perhaps not malevolent. Bilbo basically went berserk, chopping at it because it dared to go near his ring.

Combined with his slightly psychopathic "Mine!", It fits better with how his response when it's over is basically to look like he's about to be violently sick, and completely horrified.

It looked like a centipede or cockroach or something, definately not a spider, and I too thought it was harmless and the scene was made just to show Bilbo might be going insane over the ring for the first time.

I really want to use my easterlings to show the elven king what he would get for his lase fair/jerk of the third age award, though I admit it would be cool to see a Girieon model with skylances.

It's the good heroes for me, Beorn, Bard and Tauriel in particular. They're all great models with great profiles at a well-balanced points cost. I'm particularly excited about some fun, fluffy all hero Good armies, been thinking of something like:

Beorn
Bard
2 eagles

or

Beorn
Bard
Legolas
Tauriel

for 500 points. Hardly the most competitive thing in the word but it'd be great fun.

I'm most impressed by how they balanced Tauriel. Leggy and Thranduil were absolute no brainers for the first 2 Wood Elf heroes in the past but Tauriel's really shaken that up. I think I'd still pick Leggy first due to his hero-sniping rule but then the choice between Thranduil and Tauriel is a really tricky one. That to me is really good design on the part of the Games Developers.

After I finish Azog, Tauriel, Beorn and Thranduil are next in the painting queue so should hopefully see some action before long!

I was hoping for the film to increase my excitement at the prospect of Beorn, but in fact it did nothing for it, as he had so little screen time.

If anything, the films made me re-think the crappy nature of the mirkwood spiders!

Thranduil has been bumped up the enthusiasm list by quite a lot also.

Tauriel's anti-horde special rule makes a good deal more sense too.

Bilbo wearing the one ring
I wonder if they will release the figure like clear resin frodo or just a base with foot prints, maybe it will be a more ethereal sculpt like Galadriel from the white council or the twilight ringwraiths from the fellowship release.

I fear we may not get many more character poses because of gw's move away from finecast.
