Hi guys I have a few questions about making an army as I have never played the game only painted minis to put on a shelf.

Would the minis paint come off after a few games of using them?
As my paint seems to come off even just touching the mini while painting it! And I would not want to put hours into painting just for it to come back off.

Would Varnishing the Minis fix this problem?

Also basing on the minis how do you guys keep the grass/little rocks from coming off?

Thanks Madfrog

Varnishing is definitely helpful to prevent paint loss, if you're using a decent quality paint they shouldn't just come off. Obviously you want to handle the model by the base as much as possible.

I have very little experience doing anything beyond gluing the terrain to the base and b that's always been enough for me

Thinking about it, it might be coming off easily for me because I was undercoating with a cheap black acrylic paint. It needs to be a primer right?

What Glue do you use for your basing?

Thanks Madfrog

Regular PVA for me, and the bases hold up just fine most of the time time. If the stones are bigger than fine gravel (say, bits of slate) then I superglue that bit on first, then pva everything else on.

The only time I've had paint come off a model is with metal minis, when they've been knocked or scraped. I use the GW black spray.

You also need to wash your models (even plastics) in hot soapy water. The only models I've had flake are my first ones that I didn't know to wash. Since washing + GW spray, I've never had flakes, and my models have been used pretty regularly with no varnish.

I dont have flakey problems because
1) use a plastic primer on plastics and different primer on metals.
2) I wash all resin (even finecast)
3) I spray the bases before glueing stones to it to give purchase for the glue.
4) I am awesome.
