You might be able to use the bridge (or part of it) somewhere else in Rivendell - maybe where Arwen and Aragorn were in FotR?

To get the coarse stone texture on the polyfilla, I press a kitchen scourer pad into it before it sets. This gives a nicely roughened surface that represents masonry without it looking so regular (like HirstArts blocks).

Thanks, I was going to ask. HirstArts is a hobby in it self. I find them too regular and too large for scale models. But The Hobbit and D&D are fantasy.You have to fudge ground scale anyway so it doesn't bother me much.

I've seen some amazing things done with HirstArts blocks and I own some of the molds myself. But I do prefer making my own walls, trying to get them exactly how I want them to look.

Like this French facade I made for Eureka Miniatures...

I attempted to simulate the style of masonry where the larger ashlar blocks are placed at the bottom of the wall and get smaller and more irregular the higher you go. Impossible with HirstArts unfortunately (note that the painting wasn't quite finished at that point).

The above is one thing I've always loved about the way you do brickwork / masonry. It's the way you put it together so it looks in unison but not identical. The subtle changes in colour and texture are a lesson for me to take on board.

Very true! I only kept one Hirst Arts Building. I made one to fill a gap in my Miniature Building Authority city block. Moria has required a lot of custom blocks.The Dungeon Command tiles have been fun but would have been impossible if I had to reproduce the brick work.
I like the way your model turned out. Is it in production?

Molds have been made and I have a copy of the model in resin, but it hasn't been released yet. It is a part of a French Revolution set that Eureka are bringing out, either next month or January (I think).

And after a hiatus caused by any number of reasons, I am back on this project.

My aim is to have an approximately finished building by July of this year, so I'll be working on this in earnest over the next few months.

I cut the base out last weekend and have just about done the entrance steps. I little more polyfilla on the risers and some more scribing of the masonry and they'll be ready for fixing in place.

One of my major difficulties has been the thought of doing the roof tiles. To cut them individually, I would need to make approximately 7500 tiles for this one building. I'm obsessive, but not THAT obsessive.

So a friend of mine is laser cutting them in strips of 25 tiles using 600 gsm card. They should arrive in the post tomorrow or Tuesday.

It's good to have friends. Especially a friend with a laser. Yeah baby!

This is one side of the roof that I need to cover in diamond shaped tiles. It's 600mm long and 235 mm wide.

I have been wondering how on earth I was going to make the tiles for this model without going insane, when a friend mentioned he'd just picked up a laser cutter. When asked how thin can the cutting material be, he said 600gsm cardstock was no problem.

So a quick visit to some CAD software resulted in a file being emailed and within two hours he'd cut around 300 of these tile strips. They arrived today!

I can't help but do the Dr Evil thing whenever I say "laser"

Continuing the Dr Evil theme, the strips look not unlike the rows of teeth on a shark, and of course the Doctor was interested in equipping sharks with 'frickin' lasers'
