There's definitely something of wind in the willows meets Dr. Suess about him!

Quite right SF,

until we see him in action the jury is out as far as I am concerned.

I don't like it...he looks more like a werewolf than a bear. I always imagined something like Hagrid from Harry Potter :(

I kinda like this design (better than the porcupine look) realistic but still animal like. Though I would have liked to have seen him a bit more bulky and muscular. A bit like UKFB's Woodsman

If they would do that you know you would get the complaints of them ripping off Harry Potter.

He looks nowt like a werewolf. For starters, they have longer snouts.

Hi Thao,

Ar you referring to your reception of Beorn or Mr. Champers my late GREAT pet Guinea pig?
Regards,

Bilbo.

Having re-read the Hobbit last week in preparation for the Extended edition release.

He doesn't look much like what was described in the book.

At all.

P.J.has the issue that he needs to make a distinctive film with his own stamp on it, and basically cannot come up with a character that is basically Hagrid!

I can appreciate that, though it still rubs me up the wrong way.

It's like the Dwarves beards, i'm irrationally irritated by their appearance.

Personally I imagined them to look like the first White Dwarf, but like it or lump it, I know Weta tends to have a Marmite reaction, but there is a clearly recognisable look which is Pete Jackson's! He's made his mark.

Here is a better picture, where he doesn't look so "monkey-like". I think the upper one is not the best, had moment. Like this I like him much better.
