I have a question involving Cavalry with the Expert Rider rule. Many cavalry units are able to take advantage of their shields, even though they carry bows, thanks to Expert Rider. Under the description of expert rider, I noticed that it mentions that they lose their shield bonus if they dismount. My question is, is it possible for a model to drop some of their Wargear voluntarily? Cavalry models are assumed to drop their lances if they dismount. Can they elect to drop their bows as well, so that they may continue to take full advantage of their shields when dismounted?

This seems like it could be particularly important to a model with an Elven Blade. If they are forced to keep both their shield and their bow when they dismount, then they cannot use their Elven blade 2-handed even though they are not receiving any benefit from their shield.

Hope that helps pal :)

I think they maintain both shield and bow, but they can have the only advantage to shield themself, like Lurtz

They can choose to leave either the shield OR the bow on the horse, maintaining full use of whichever piece of equipment they keep. If they remount, then they regain their lost war gear.

I'ts been al long while since I've played SBG but we always used to get strong warriors to mount up with other mounts (riding on their back) and then transport them quickly to another place of the battle field.

I know it was years ago before we got into WOTR... can you still do this in SBG?

In the LotR rules, you can choose between the shield and bow. Not sure about the Hobbit rules though.

It is still in the rules, but as an optional special rule. Meaning you have to get agree with your opponent before the game that you will play that rule. Standard tournaments dont use these rules.

Elcanter is right. If you dismount, you keep both shield and bow but lose the defense bonus. Pg 82 of the hobbit rulebook.

I always thought the rule was that you dropped either the shield or the bow. But if it says you keep both in the new hobbit rules then I guess thats the way it is now.

I was just wondering if the same rule applies if the rider is thrown from his horse say with a magical spell or the horse if killed with bow fire.
