These are the first elves in my Lothlorien force
Image
Image
They are painted with a simple basecoat, wash, single highlight formula on the entire model and took three hours to complete four models (from the primer drying to the bases being done) with the help of my girlfriend's trusty hairdryer.

They may be a little dark for most peoples tastes and the finish on everything looks a little flat but they are quick and (I think) tidy.
I am concentrating on getting a force finished in double quick time rather than obsessing over every little detail. I recently completed an Isengard force in my spare time using this method and it took me about three weeks with a couple of hours each night so here's hoping I can do these elves just as quickly.

I will put a bit of effort into my heroes when I get around to buying them.

Thanks for looking.

Wow if you managed to paint in such a high standard with so few layers... I am speechless. Their cloaks look amazing, and their faces (albeit too pale for me) too. I apply the wash after I am finished with the layering. What are the benefits of applying it in between? I prefer your metal color over GW's. GW's just does not look realistic and gives the armor a fragile appearance.

Hi constantine. If I am using a wash I usually use it over a mid-tone basecoat and build up highlights from there. A wash will apply shading to a mid-tone colour without changing the colour completely and without having to work from a too-dark base. Using it after layering on highlights is a good idea for tying all the colours together but can leave the finish looking flat so i always think it's a good idea to add highlights after a wash. Just depends on what finish you're after really.

For instance the cloth was Macragge blue, washed with Army painter Dark Tone ink and highlighted with Calgar blue. If I missed out the wash completely the recesses wouldn't look shaded enough and if I washed the cloth after the highlight it would have looked too dark overall and the contrast would be lost.

Thanks for the comment mate. Appreciate the feedback.

@logan fraser. I used a bit of static grass, a few bits of clump foliage and the wispy green bushy stuff is coarse turf. They are all Javis products. Cheers.

Really nice work there han!

I have to agree on the process for using a wash - it definitely leaves it too dull if you don't apply a final highlight over the top.

I have to say with the paint job you've chosen, you've managed to make the plastic sculpts look a lot better - I think I was put off them, somewhat, by the orangey armour.

What are you adding to this Lothlorien force?

Cheers Shieldmaiden. From a painting POV this is one of the nicest LOTR plastic kits I've worked with. They are detailed but not overly so and what detail there is is crisp and defined. The orcs, uruk hai and wargs are really poor quality sculpts in comparison.
I've got another 4 galadhrim with bows and 4 galadhrim with swords assembled, primed and ready on my table but real life is getting in the way today so I will hopefully be doing them tomorrow night.
I need to buy 6 galadhrim knights, 4 guards of the galadhrim court and Celeborn and Galadriel for a 600 point force for my girlfriend to use against my Isengard. My board and scenery is all ready to go so as soon as everything is bought and painted we can start playing. Really looking forward to it.

Bought the sourcebooks a few days ago too and I'm tempted to buy a few ents so we can play "the last march of the ents" scenario. That was one of my fave bits from the film.

Some more elves. I haven't had chance to paint any LOTR since the last lot as I had 40 clanrats to complete for a friend. I had a time window this morning to get cracking on some Galadhrim. Hopefully will be getting some heroes soon.

With my Isengard force winding to a close I have decided to try and finish off my elves.
I say try as I find it quite boring painting good guys for some strange reason :P

I have a warband of wood elves and another warband of Galadhrim warriors still on their sprues and Legolas and Haldir to lead them. I wouldn't mind some ents and great eagles to go with them as I feel they would fit nicely and provide a nice bit of punch to an otherwise mediocre force.
Anyway, here is the first warband. 12 Galadhrim and Galadriel.

I got Galadriel cheap off ebay because her raised hand was badly miscast as you can see in this picture:
Image
I think it looks awful. I thought I'd cleaned it up enough so it wouldn't be as noticeable but, in hindsight, I should have either converted it or bought the model brand new. As it stands I'm really unhappy with her hand as it looks like she has had an industrial accident which is unfitting for the queen of the golden wood.
Apart from that though the model was fun to paint. There's only hair, flesh and robes so it was nice and easy :P

Cheers Gunslinger. I just wish Galadriel's hand didn't look like a pie.

Ironic, I don't like painting evil, I find them a bit boring. I much prefer good and the Galadhrim I adore. I have a box I can't wait to paint.
Yours look great and is that NMM you've used ? If so what was your colour scheme as it looks VMC / VGC.
I'm slowly switching to them from GW as their cheaper but Im already preferring them.
