This is something very special. One of the things I really like about this (which probably seems secondary to Bag End itself) is the little road/pathway running alongside. The colours are just spot on it looks so realistic. Well worth all the time and effort you've put into it.

Just showed my other half the latest photos, she couldn't believe it! Well impressed, in particular the vegetable plot and pond. This is so special.

Bilbo will be on the finished piece and I would like Gandalf there. Unfortunately I don't have him in his cart.
Frodo will be laid chilling against the well and Sam will be tending flowers.

Very gracious and many thanks.

Wow, fantastic! I absolutely love it! This must be one of the best Bag Ends I've seen (and I've seen quite a few). Great job, I can imagine Gandalf standing in front while Bilbo wishes him a good morning. :yay:
Do you plan to make the fence by the way?

Thanks Feanor and in answer to your question, most definitely. It's funny looking at it as it seems almost complete but I have so much more to do. There will be at least two more trees and a host of flowers, vegetation and so on. Oh and of course the fence and gate with a bench in the paved area at the bottom of the steps.
I'm considering scratch building a sun dial to sit in the middle of the formal lawn, I think this could be a nice touch.

The kitchen garden is progressing nicely. I've placed all the plants in their beds and added a well - that took some messing to get the handle. It is made from paper clips that I cut to length and patiently glued in place.
The well it self is made from milliput and the bucket from a piece of card. You can't see on these photos but the bucket hangs from a length of rope with a small metal hook to hold the handle.

And another close up of the kitchen garden

I also decided on a sun dial for the formal garden. What persuaded me was the chance to break up the grass as it is a fair expanse. There is a tiny border around the base and in there will go a few flowers to accentuate the display. I've added patches of a lighter green grass, once again, just to break things up and keep that 'realistic' feel as best as I can.

Image

And a couple of closer looks at the tree

Image

This one shows the gnarled looking bark of the trunk thats replicated across all the branches.

Finally, one more view of the pond. I've started to add individual strands of long grass. I've got some different scatter so I think there may be some more colour going on this, probably some flowering grass tufts and weeds. I took the photo as the sun began to shine and I think it helped the look.

Impressive! :D

now you just need all those flowers and bushes and such to create volume around the garden, specially the bench at the garden´s door

Im enjoying alot your progress :)

About those fences I think there is a online store that sells the exact fences you got on those pics, if you cant find them however gandalf the grey cart offer nice ones as well....

Do I understand you right Galanur, that you'd buy the cart just to cut it into pieces and use it as fence? My heart bleeds at this very moment...

Awesome job. I can't wait to see your first battle report using this scenery. I can see the orcs and thugs running in fear from the hobbits already!

Yes, there Noch laser cut minis.

Re Gandals cart. A nice idea for a mold but I will be using garden ties to create a wattle effect. I've just put the fence posts in, so it hopefully won't be long before the fence is finished

There will never be a battle report. This is purely a display piece as I don't game.

Just looked through this entire thread! Some absolutely fantastic work! Wish I could manage something half as good as yours! Great work!! :-)

Just curious gandalf, what cruise ship were u on and where to? Saw it a few pages back and it caught my interest as I work on cruise ships as an engineer :-P

Thanks for your reply Malky.
I was on the Thomson Celebration and went around the Eastern Med, Isreal, Cyprus, Rhodes a few stops in Turkey and Greece.
I love the life on board ship and hope to treat ourselves to a 3 month world cruise when I retire.

Ah awesome! I work for P&O at the moment so I'm always doing similar cruises! Heading over to the Caribbean in a few weeks for Caribbean season though then on a world cruise in January :-)

World cruise !!! I'm not jealous at all....
Do you get the chance to do any painting while on board ? Obviously it would have to be calmer seas.

Well I haven't tried that before as I've only just got back into painting and modelling (after a break of about 10 years) since I came back from my last trip but I'm thinking I might take a few away with me when I go back! Could just take a small box of models and a few paints or something! Don't really get much time tho as there's always parties on in the crew areas! Will be spending most of my time in the officers bar or exploring all the ports of the world cruise when I'm not working :-D

Maybe we should have a thread on the most unusual places where people have been working on the hobby? Just a thought... :)
Bag End looking even better!
