I agree with the other comments: perfectly painted minis!
I really like the bloodsplatters! How did you paint them? Mine never stand out as much..

Superbly great work especially on the skin :yay: Your painting really brings out the muscle tone :D

The blood even looks like real blood :o

Hey, thanks everybody. didn't think my berserkers would go down that well.

The blood is really easy and I can't really claim credit for any startlingly novel technique.
It's Tamiya Clear Red paint. This stuff is a glossy, semi-transparent paint that actually congeals like real blood when it's drying. I mix a bit of dark brown or black into the Clear Red, wait until it dries a bit on the palette so it goes sticky, and then apply it randomly. Then I dot pure Tamiya Red onto different areas to look like fresher blood.

Be careful with that stuff though as it's really dangerous. Not like normal acrylics so no brush licking, don't use your favourite brush to apply it and change the water as soon as you're done.

This figure was painted a couple of years ago before I discovered Tamiya Clear Red.
Image
It took ages, was about 5 stages of different paints and inks and doesn't look half as good IMO.
For blood effects get Tamiya Clear Red.

I agree, Tamiya works far better for realistic fresh blood. Although the above photo is of a great painted figure, the blood looks painted not like blood, if you get my drift.

You give me hope, hannanibal. I'm far too lazy to do the 10-20 highlights most exceptional painters use, but if I can ever get single highlight mini's to look as good as yours, I will be exstatic. They are brilliant, and painted so quickly.

Nothing much to report. I haven't had any time for painting lately and only just sat down to paint this morning for the first time in weeks. This captain was already primed and ready to go.

My Isengard force is pretty much complete now. Maybe, in the coming weeks, I'll get around to some Mordor orcs, led by Grishnakh, and maybe another troll. Or two. And some berserkers.....And more scouts. Definitely more scouts.....And possibly some more warriors.

And wildmen of Dunland...

Utterly fantastic!

The only thing wrong in my opinion is that the facial highlights seem to me to differ in tone from the highlights on the legs for example. Just a minor quible though, other than that I think it's perfect

:yay:

Stunning work again, absolutely gorgeous, I've said it before and I'll say it again, your flesh is absolutely fantastic - amongst the best I've seen.

How did you go about doing the sword ? Is that something like thinned snakebite leather you've used ?

This thread is an absolute treat. That is quite possibly the best Isengard force I have ever seen. Well done, sir!

@Lord Elrond. Cheers mate.
@Sid. I always take my facial highlights 2-3 steps further than the rest of the body. Same colours, just with more highlight added to the mix.
@Dr Grant, Gene, Rognarr, Erunion. Awwww.....You guys....
@Gandalf. It was a basecoat of Chainmail and then multiple thin glazes of Vermin Brown working from the tip of teh sword, toward the base and keeping the sharp blade side free of glaze. Then I added some VMC Smoke to the Vermin Brown and repeated the process starting the glazes further down but working them toward the base, Then glazes of pure Smoke and finally a small wash of AP Dark Tone Ink right near the join of teh hand and sword.
I then cleared up the sharp blade and edges of the sword with Chainmail. Hope this helps.
