RandolftheRed has inspired me to tackle the problem of Storm Giants. At lease how to make them. Every one is invited to post your Giant model WIP. There are some very talented members of the One-Ring. Let's see what we can come up with for fun.

First up bark man.

Image

I need to find some lower legs and a right arm. I pinned the Jaw to the head and neck. The Hips and a scapula were pinned to the body. I may move the left arm to the right. It looks like a pointing finger. The maternal is pine bark. The pins are bamboo. I will trim off the pins with a flush cutter when the wood glue drys.

Lets have some fun here. Post rules on RandolftheRed's other post 8)

This earth elemental/ storm giant will see far more action in Troll Wars than in LOTR. It may turn out OK for both. I would really like to see what some of you come up with. Does any one have ideas for Fire Giants?
I will texture later this afternoon when I am sure the glue is dry.

Come one guys it is OK to make fun

How do you find the time ?
For a fire giant how about a normal bark giant but painted like a Balrog ? Fire colours underneath a dark shell. You could use the natural contours of the bark to create the look.

I am retired. My back has been bothering me. I am feeling better. But I am not up to cutting the grass. I can't do the lifting I need to finish the dry wall at my sisters house until the week end when my sister's older son is home. So I am goofing off.

The painting suggestion is sound. I was thinking about taking advantage of Reapers Bones release. I can buy seven packs for the cost of one Finecast figure. These flames and fire balls are cast in translucent red plastic.Reaper claims there is no need to prime bones. Sure enough a light yellow dry brush and a red wash covered with out a problem. I am not sure what to do next on the translucent green spirit.I will probably paint the two skeletons ivory.

I can follow your suggestion and add flames and fibber optic lights to a purpose built lava beast. I am going to finish up this project first. I will order ten packs of the Bones Flames.

It should be dry enough tomorrow to touch up with DryDex and prime. I found some cheep LEDs and some old school light kits when I took My mother to Hobby Lobby. I also found some Poly-Fil and some old fashioned chicken wire for the magma experiment.

If my back will hold out I might cut out the sleeping giant tomorrow.

I will start the next step this afternoon. The back drops were a little worn. Time to fix them up too.

This really is fun work, perhaps not exactly fitting to LoTR but wonderful non the less. I'm surprised no one else thinks so.
What about mixing so e red and yellow foliage on one of the trees ?

The Sleeping Giant may effect people the same way it is inspired by Allen Lee's concept drawing and did not get into the movie. I am going to make some fall trees for Mirkwood I will take your advice. The Giant will end up for Fantacide. He looks like he is throwing rocks at Cloud Giants.

I can not resist making the waterfall.

Great work :yay: I love the grass on him :D
Are you going to carve some features into his face like gouges for eyes, mouth marks etc. ?

I did not make a very good photo. May be I should have made them a little darker.

No wait I see now the features on the face :) I think if you inked them it would really bring it out more 8)

I have posted so much on using the Hirst Arts Molds over the years,I did not realize I had not made a basic explanation in my wip.

Link http://www.hirstarts.com/

I cast the blocks using Hirst Arts molds. The rock faces are cast from Woodland Scenics molds.

The clinic is and old presentation given at Rail Road shows. I have a copy on VSH :) It is a useful/helpful explanation of many of the methods I use. It is a bit long.
Woodland Scenics also have a line of products designed for school projects.

Thease are made for children . So you have decide if you would rather watch a presentation for kids or old fokes

The clinic for old fokes

I am not sure I don't like the children's presentations better.
