If Pippin has a pony (as far as I remember, he only rides double with Gandalf), I have no idea what it's name might be.

Merry's pony is called Stybba.

Who was, according to Tolkein, the member of the fellowship who did the least to advance the quest?

Nah, Gimli furthered the Quest by making them go through Moria ... I'm guessing Boromir, since Legolas has been said.

Not really, it was really Frodo who decided to right? Or maybe that's my movie-knowledge speaking... xP

If Gimli hadn't suggested it, mentioning Balin's expedition, Gandalf wouldn't have considered it at all. If Gimli hadn't pushed the idea, they'd have probably tried the Gap of Rohan instead.

Probably very true :) However, since we both seem to agree that Legolas is(and in my opinion always was) useless, establishing whether or not Gimli was useful or not is quite pointless. xP

The answer was Legolas.

It was not Gimli but Gandalf who made them go through Moria in the books, with Aragorn being against it. They changed it in the movies because Gandalf can't be wrong :).

What was the kill count of Legolas and Gimli at the Battle of Helms Deep?

42 for Gimli and 41 for Legolas, for it is said that Gimli surpassed Legolas' count by one. This one was easy, because it is a thing I like to mention now and again to elf-lovers, especially when I am trampling over their armies with Gimli xP

Yup, and I'm pretty sure that that was the only reason why Tolkien thought that Legolas did less than Gimli, because of that one kill. Also, in the movie they had the count at 43-42 for some weird reason.

Is this question too hard? Perhaps on a rather too obscure topic? Would y'all like me to pose a new question?
