Hey,

Let me know if this is the wrong place to post this topic. I really want to build and recreate the War of the Jewels. For men I have thought of going with mostly Gripping Beasts Dark Age plastic box sets with Gripping Beast Heroes as the Named Characters. For evil I would use the existing GW orcs and trolls as well as the Balrog- Does any one know of Cheaper Balrog alternatives? they can be smaller- For dragons i will get a mix of many manufacturers. Now the real issue is the Elves. There are like no real elven miniatures out there that look good and could be made into a sizable army. Characters there are a few.... any suggestions? oh and Scale pictures of the Gripping Beast Dark age Miniatures compared to GW orcs would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in Advance! :-D :)

Well for cheaper balrogs: have you already considered the dwellers in the dark? http://www.games-workshop.com/gws/catal ... od1460127a

I've made a whole warband of dwellers in the dark led by a Gothmog lord of balrogs, check my wip in my signature, I also have I couple of balrogs lying around I've been itching to battle with them,a while back I sculpted a model of Feanor and I made stats for him too.

Are you in the uk?

Hey,

I had not thought of Dwellers in the Dark before but that seems like a good idea.

@Grungehog I am not in the UK sorry.

For elven heroes Red Box Games Lord Sylvain is the figure I will probably use for Feanor..... Still looking for suggestions and I thank those who have responded....

Morgoth would be hard to find, especially since he's VERY tall!
If you really want one you could go for a Warhammer Chaos unit maybe? Or modify a Sauron (make a new crown, change weapons etc.)
I always found it hard to depict Morgoth though, since he's an evil spirit. Good luck for finding something suitable though.

Maybe this helps:

Yes Morgoth would be big that is why I thought of using a Figure of Sauron....
e.g. http://www.wetanz.com/sauron-the-dark-lord-figure/
that thing is 2 feet tall a suitable size I think 8) 8) :P

Surely you'd use some stern words first?!

Wow.. this one has a big head.. oO The problem I see there is then, that you'd still have just a big Sauron, not Melkor/Morgoth and maybe 2 feet is already too big? I have no idea, if I remember right the Valar and Maiar could change size and appearance until they took a physical form?

Also: 300 $ is quite a lot of money... Personally I'd go for sculpting something myself. In this size it shouldnt be as difficuilt as normal 28 mm minis. And I (but thats just my personal opinion) wouldn't pick a Morgoth much bigger than a balrog, because at some point it simply starts looking ridiculous :P Just my two cents.

@ Rognarr: Yes I see your point.... Well Morgoth could not change form after he stole the Silmarils because he had given much of his power to his minions. Yes that is rather costly  also what other miniatures out there could be a possible Morgoth? Any ideas?

Here's a Morgoth-size I could live with (in comparison with Sauron): http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2110/204 ... 4cfb_o.jpg / http://www.lordoftheringsguide.com/foru ... hp?t=20131 I don't know if there so many options (or any at all?) for a morgoth substitute.. in your place I'd (as I pointed out before) get creative and start making my own morgoth.

Quick research also brought me this diorama photo.: Image which, according to his other photos, seems to be tabletop scale. If you like you could contact that guy and ask how he made his Morgoth?

What about these for elven troops: http://www.mirliton.it/index.php?cName= ... high-elves
or perhaps
http://www.blacktreedesign.com/uk/home.php?cat=2318
or
http://www.westwindproductions.co.uk/ca ... cPath=1_17
and these might be suitable for elven heroes:
http://www.thunderboltmountain.com/sear ... ton.y=-384

As for Morgoth, I would use a large scale figure, perhaps an action figure, such as this one: http://www.shopping.com/Papo-Papo-Doom- ... -Gold/info

Good luck!

The westwood elves look really nice and their resemblance to the elves of the last alliance is quite a nice feature!

How about Thunderbolt mountain for tall beautiful crafted elf minis. 30mm scale, which means... well slightly taller than GW which is good for elves from Valinor, tall noble and very 'first age':

http://www.thunderboltmountain.com/collections/all/30mm

edit: oops someone already posted the link. I will add that I have some of these already and I am tempted to just use them instead of the film/Gw versions!

@CyberAlien312: WOW those West Wind Elves are really good does any one actually have any to give a size comparison? and I already really liked the Thunderbolt Mountain ones and may use them as individuals.....

@daersalon: Could you post size comparisons for the Thunderbolt Mountain alongside some orcs? please and Thank you :)

Also Thank you all for your kind and thoughtful help around Christmas I will be starting a WIP.... :D :D :D :D :D

Could use the soon to be obsolete Sauron the Necromancer model as Morgoth. Probably a little small.

I like those Thunderbolt figures, they look ideal for conversion and mixing and matching body parts with GW first age elves.
