Mini-update time!
Thanks so much for all the kind comments as always guys, nice to know the hard work was worth it - glad you like the eagles!
@theavenger001 - the eagles are glued on, the one who's at the top of the tree (the first one in the thread with its beak closed) has a branch sticking up into the hole where the flying stand would normally go which makes a (relatively) sturdy join. His right wing is also glued to a couple of the branches on the back to hold it on place. The second eagle (with its beak open) is 'sitting' in the main trunk of the tree so the tail-feathers are glued in making the main join, a few branches are then glued to the back of the wings again to provide a sturdier join. Thanks for the compliments, it's nice that it's not obvious how they're held on, they're certainly secure enough for gaming purposes but I have no doubt if they got dropped there'd be bits of tree and eagle everywhere
They travelled to and from Nottingham without trouble though, wrapped up in bubble wrap in a box. I was thinking about it as I was assembling the trees so they were specifically assembled to fit the eagles fairly securely.
So as promised I'm back after a brief break, we had a great weekend in Nottingham, for anyone who's interested I've written up a full report of the weekend and all the games and everything else here:
viewtopic.php?f=2&t=26054Most prudently for this thread was that my mounted Radagast conversion and one of my eagles won their respective painting competitions which was really unexpected and very humbling. I also got the Best Army nomination (1 of 3) I was after although lost out to a gorgeous Helm's Deep alliance army.
So, after that brief dalliance into wizards and eagles I"m turning back to my Uruks. Whilst I haven't been painting I have spent the last week cleaning up a load of figures. I absolutely HATE cleaning up miniatures, removing the mould lines, particularly on metal minis, is without doubt my least favourite part of the hobby - Urgh. Still, I stuck at it in front of the TV for a few evenings last week and have now cleaned up a whole bunch of models that probably represent the next 3 'batches' I'll be painting. Here they be:
There's 11 crossbowmen, 9 Ferals, 5 Beserkers and a very special Lurtz....
Yep, not long ago I managed to pick up this Lurtz pose for £20 on ebay. It's obviously an extravagant purchase but I've wanted him for absolutely ages and he tends to go for about £30 so, relatively, it was a good deal if not quite a bargain. Anyway, it's not much more expensive than GW are charging for Finecast figures these days! I think some people were put off as the photo was out of focus and there was a fairly nasty paint job on the mini. However, after a nice nail polish remover bath and some time picking away with a knife I had him in good shape with none of the important detail obscured - looking forward to getting started on him.
So yes, that's where you find me, I'm about to go and undercoat the 9 Ferals, Lurtz and 2 Crossbowmen. Gotta get those guys finished for a tournament on the 29th so hopefully there'll be a couple of updates in the next week or so.
Thanks as always for the support chaps.
