Yeah true, you do have a point. It would be weird for a very very dedicated member who has worked his/her way up to that position to do something that is out of theme. But you never know, do you consider this guy: :dmf:

to be in theme with Lotr?

There will be a rank above Champion, but I am keeping that one under wraps for the moment. As for the use of Races within the rank titles, we'll be adding a Realm aspect to the site in the future and linking it to a special character you can create for use in official One Ring games, so it might seems a bit odd to see an Elven princeling of Angmar.

The other thing is that I wanted to avoid many of the same ranks that TLA are using, namely:

Villager
Squire
Warrior
Standard Bearer
Captain
Lord
Ranger

Wasn't sure that you were going to be bring back individual race titles. Read somewhere else before by someone that posted (parapharse); "having different race titles will confuse the rankings because you won't know exactly which equates to what, so it's abandoned." Glad to hear though that you are considering bringing back separate race rankings to the board, I'm in favor of it.

And yeah that's a lot of common rankings with TLA, don't know how much it should matter though except on the notion of community identity.

But I take your point. Some custom titles would be fine, and on sites where they have them they're often just another fun custom field, but I'd think we'd be better off maintaining the LotR theme that has always been so important to this site.

I have to say I'm not entirely sure Custom Titles are the way to go, though. I'd much rather just wait and see what new monstrosity* Alan's come up with instead.

* Monstrosity was the first word to come into my head, and it was too fun to replace with a more correct word. :oops:

We could also have a Lobelia Sackville Baggins award for the most naggy blogger of the month/year or whenever someone else deserves to win her tiara off of the offending individual!

I am not terribly serious about the above suggestions, but it might be amusing.

Not if you win. I think it'd be seriously damaging to the site's nice, friendly atmosphere to have a "nastiest person" contest.

I have to agree about this a public award for worst poster would put people away from the site. I think if someone was bad, it should be in a more discreet way. I'm aware the old last alliance had a vermin rank which was for posting bad things or something similar. I think something more discreet like that would be better since I don't usually read ranks before I consider what they are saying.
