I recently purchased an uruk-hai siege assault ballista in finecast
(this is my first finecast model, and I was very unimpressed with the casting, now Ive read its quite common to have problems, but that's not the point of this post anyway...)
I am thinking about removing the axels from the model, drilling holes in the base piece and putting in axels that will actually turn, so my model can have wheels that actually turn.
Has anyone tried anything like this? Do you think it will work?
Thanks, Josh

No experience with that, but to be honest it doesnt sound very difficuilt. Then again, turning wheels won't be of much use with such kind of model! ;)

Why don't you think they will be of much use?

I'm also thinking about whether the turning axel might end up losing paint where it will rub against the frame. I will be using proper undercoat, but im not sure how easily paint would chip off finecast. Any ideas?

Well, the paint chipping off is one point.
Next: if you glue it to a base, why do you need wheels that can turn?
Or do you plan to use it as "toy"?

Finecast isnt a toy >.>

Also, finecast tends to peel off in ribbons of paint, rather than chipping.

I never said it was a toy. I just wonder why he wants turning wheels on such kind of model...

The ballista doesn't have a base, just the 3 uruks that go with it. I just wanted it to be more realistic but I probably won't bother if the paint will wear off
