hello again i need advise on stripping models i tried the detol route and although it took the paint off it was very messy and took a long time is there any quicker ways to get paint off without damaging the pain, if not some tips on making the detol work better would be great

The Dettol method is best for plastics (and I would assume Finecast if you managed to collect any).

For metals, you can use any ordinary paint-stripping tools - white spirits, battery fluid etc.

Just always be careful.

Regarding making Dettol more effective - soak overnight or for 24 hours (if you dilute to 50% water, you can use twice as much). Use an old, stiff-bristled toothbrush (or brush even) and maybe add a little washing up liquid, under hot running water. It's still a bit messy though.

thank you after a few uses the toothbrushes went soft and werent very good at removing paint, could i use a wire brush or would this damage the product?, and with regards to the hot water and fairy liquid, what stage would i use this?

From what I read so far:

Use pure dettol, let it soak for 24 hours, brush it off with a toothbrush and hand soap DO NOT let water get in contact with the mini as it will create a black smudge. After cleaning it with soap you can rinse it with water.

I use pure dettol, not watered down if you leave it overnight (from about 6pm to 6am) it should have done the job, but longer doesn't hurt. It is very good on plastics. It works pretty well on metal too.

A toothbrush is really your best bet as they are the right size, shape and strength. I think a steel bursh would probably scratch a bit - you could do it softly and it might be ok but after a few models i'd imagine people get a bit more clumsy.

ok i will be doing the next batch with pure detol, and will keep it in for 48 hours as im going to london for 2 days, so when i come back gloves on and ready to get messy i will let you know how i get on and upload some pics if there is a difference between pure detol and 50/50 on both metal and plastic thanks guys

The only difference is the minimum soak time
