So far Dain has saved my bacon more than once, charging masses of bad guys (As much as Gondorians are bad guys) and left a pile of bodies behind him.
Balin with D/axe has also been utterly invaluable to me and for his points cost is a utter steal.

Elrond, is really overcoasted, but put him on a horse with his Knights and watch him and his buddies carve though battlelines.
Aragon with his sword, while very expensive, normally slays half my entire army, and only ever managed to bring him down once (I tend to have bad luck these days).

The Golden King and Amdur are great heros. Both are pretty much banners, Amdur can match most heros in a fight and the Golden King is a great infantry shredder.

Gilgalad on a horse with a shield.
I can kill a bat swarm in a heroic combat with ease.
Can you?

Ori seems like he could be, but I don't have very much experience with him.

This thread is one reason why I love this game most. All very good answers and yet so very different from each other. The variety and balance, even if not perfect, allows each player to have his favorites without feeling completely hamstrung for making the choice.

Durburz, by the way...

Oh yeah, I forgot about Durburz, I have used that guy almost every time I play evil. Eorl the young is a pretty solid hero too for what you pay for btw.

I can vouch for this, Ori is a -beast- for how few points he costs. For the cost of less than a goblin captain you get a model that can shoot twice if he doesn't move up to 12 inches in range, instantly wounds and passes all in-the-way checks on a 6 AND allows the rest of Thorin's Company to regain might/fate/will if they kill a hero or monster.

Can't go wrong with that guy if you ask me. Only problem is that he's a bit low on the might, but hey, can't have everything.

I'd also like to point out Oin for his healing and willpoint reroll, with his ridiculously cheap cost. (Oh my banner reroll was bad? Ah well, I'll just reroll again using a willpoint from Oin)

Bombur is also surprisingly good as far as I've been noticing. He's a decent-ish fighter, but he truly shines in combination with Oin or a wizard. My opponents can testify that Gandalf getting a willpoint back every turn on a 4+ is not exactly a fun prospect.

You can't re-roll a re-roll. Oins rule is basically a banner without having a massive flag 8)

Rules say you are only allowed to use one banner per fight and it does not say that Oin counts as a banner in any way in his ability. As such, RAW there is no reason at all why you wouldn't be able to reroll a banner reroll.

Except for the rule that states that you cannot re-roll a re-roll. I think it's in the banner secction, though I may be wrong.

Reading the section, it makes no mention of it. However, after searching for a while I did find the rule on page 8, basic principles. So you are correct, you can only reroll a dice once. However, you could use Oin to reroll a different dice in the same fight, or reroll to wound which a normal banner does not allow. You could even reroll the d3 on Thorins sword.

However, thanks for making me reread the banner section, for now I know you can use more than one banner in a duel, as long as they are used on different rolls.

wrong, if you read it there stands:
if one or more banners are in range, so that's not correct. and that about oin is correct, it's good for re-roll a roll of also (for who wins the figt).

I have always liked Ugluk, Vrashku and Mauhur for Isengard. Top special rules, F and S w/o being expensive. 12" stand fast for 60 points ? Two xbows shots ? And Goddamn 3 attacks and 8" Move ?
Whereas I think of something way over priced (regarding all the enhancement to Two H weapons through the burly rule) is Anduril for 75pts. They should change it !

I love using Beregond, his skill with a longbow is awesome, and he's cheap. Stronger bow and better armour makes him way better than Damrod, for not many more points.

I hate Beregond. He once shot my Scribe by standing on a wall and aiming over my entire army... I failed my fate.
