I picked up the Warriors of Dale boxed set today at my LGS and can confirm the rules are included in a nice laminated cardstock rules insert.

There are rules for Captain of Dale as well as Warriors of Dale. The Garrison of Dale army list can include either of these options and they can be taken in an Army of Thror list.

They (captain and warriors) seem pretty average to me. No special rules. Can also be used in Army of Thror.

Any interesting rules? Are they similar to rohan infantry?harad infantry?gondor infantry? Or dol-amroth infantry?

No, just the options you see on the models themselves.

The sprue is quite packed, I think the capes take up alot of room. I'm not sure how they could have fit two more models on there, to be honest.

Better than Rohan, worse than Harad, not similar to Dol Amroth who have pikes and no option for missile weapons.

No special rules.

So overall, quite average. Any kind of niche that it seems they could fill?

They'd give Army of Thror missile fire is about it.

Pretty boring profiles but I still love the models. It's too bad they didn't get some kind of special rule.

I wish GW put all their stats in boxes. That way, rulebooks do not become outdated so quickly.

Or just reduce the cost of the rulebook. I work in a WHSmiths bookstore and I cannot think of a single book that has coated over £25, yet GW charge twice that :/ Either way thanks for the review it's a shame they don't do much interesting :(

That's pretty disappointing, I was hoping that they would actually have a use....but besides fluff I just don't see it, from what you've described.

My friend academic books cost less than GW rulebooks. Friking academic books not literature or anything else.

Anyway wanted to ask if it explains why 10 warriors instead of 12 is there any special rules like being warbands of 10 or something else or nothing just GW's greed

The inserted card with the rules has nothing further than their stat line, points costs, equipment options, and no special rules. These are in six languages, three front and three back.

The rules card is pretty thick and laminated, quite nice. Yes, it would be great if they did this for every release.

There is nothing in their rule that would justify only 10 models. Like I said earlier, the capes take up alot of room on the sprue and I think it would be difficult to fit any more models on there. Of course, you can see this on the sprue pic on GWs site.

The rules for the Dale models are pretty vanilla with nothing to make them stand out from alot of other troops we've had for years.

One interesting point is that the Captain of Dale cannot take a bow, a shield is his only equipment option. This seems strange given the Warriors of Dale can take a spear, bow, or shield.

Personally, I'm just as happy that they're fairly "vanilla." I don't see what special rules or equipment (other than maybe a great bow, but they don't need them) warriors of Dale would deserve, and I'd generally prefer that they avoid stat creep.

Eh, IMO fluff should be the reason to include a unit in your armies. Presumably they're not unbalanced, i.e. overpriced or underpowered, they just don't have any special rules or equipment. The basic infantry of most other armies is pretty bland, as well. The main difference is that this is an army that isn't at all expanded on by the story, so we don't get to see anything but the basic infantry. In that regard, they're pretty similar to Numenoreans (or Easterlings, or Moria, or any number of others, before GW added new characters and units). Maybe after the movies they'll add some character models like Girion, or a variant troop type. Until then, though, these seem to pretty much fit the bill as far as what they're supposed to represent.

They do bring something to Erebor armies, it would seem, in the form of light infantry and archers. Too bad they're more expensive than dwarf miniatures, which is a bit ridiculous if part of the purpose of including them is to bolster your numbers with light infantry.

It would be nice if GW would put some of the generic hero profiles, like Kings of Men, into newer lists, though. Then you could at least have a "counts-as" Girion.

They seem like pretty cheap spear support. I'm glad to hear that they don't have a special rule. Bard can have a special rule, but you don't need all the normal warriors to have a special rule...

My GW posted the stats card and the contents of the box-set on its Facebook page.

I figure this is a pretty safe link to post. I mean, it's a link to a Facebook page and this is GW staff uploading photos.

If it's against rules feel free to delete moderators

If not, then enjoy folks.
