Hey all,

I've been playing the Lord of the Rings Strategy Battle Game ever since it came out, and have played a lot of games in that time.

I was just wondering who you personally find the best value-for-points heroes? I'm not after recommendations as I'm not making an army list at the moment, just thought I'd start a discussion, as I'm curious to see who everyone relies on to 'pull their weight' in games.

Beregond 8) always does amazing whenever I use him. He once held off Khamul on fellbeast long enough for him to use up all of his will :D

Everyone will porbably say erkenbrand, but I personally think that elrond more often than not will always win or hel to win, as he is an amazing fighter and nature's warath is an invaluable spell, especially when channelled against uruk phalanxes.
Another is Glorfindel mounted, who, in many of my expirience, can take a phalanx head on and slaughter everyone in base contact with him almost every time i use him.
The elven twins are also great heroes as you are effectively only paying 70 pts for each one, which is much less than you would normally pay for individual heroes of their standard. Having 2 in a battle line can really help to make sure everyone is covered by standfast when you are close to breaking.
Legolas has also paid his points back many a time.
And, although I have only used him once, that time, Arathorn earned more than 3 times his points value back, killing a cave troll with his bow, carving through rohan cavalry charges and calling valuable heroic moves to prepare the defensive line before the charge.

Inargurably, the Mahud king. :)

I am firmly under the impression that Eomer is very good.
Mounted he is reasonably cheap and he always does his share of brawling... very reliable IMO.

Just got Aragorn foot and mounted in the post so I'll see if he does as well as glorfindel, considering he does cost quite a bit more...

Elrond is probably one of the more overcosted heroes in my opinion actually. While i agree natures wrath is nice, if you are playing against wraiths, you will need those will points for resisting spells, so the magic is useless. You are essentially paying an extra 30-40 points for prince Imrahil.

Rumil - almost can't lose a fight
Balin w/axe
Erkenbrand, Mauhur, Durburz, Imrahil - for what they bring to the table
Eowyn - cheap Might
Spider Queen - kills mega-heroes in one pounce
Denethor - for the fun of it.

...and probably Good Saruman, but I've never used him.

I think everyone else is priced okay (with a few over-priced), and/or they don't really bring anything to the table. Eomer is pointless IMHO. He's the same as Faramir, but Faramir is useful because he's the only Gondor hero in that price range with those stats.

The King's Champion. If you actually calculate the cost per stat he literally pays you to play him. Plus he has 2 banners included in his cost. And frankly he is a beast

Ha! Boromir of Gondor ofcourse!
Kills opponents as easy as Aragorn or Elrond but costing much less points.
He has an awesome 6 might and, along with F6 and the Horn of Gondor rule assures he wins most fights against a lot of models, making him a very effective rank-and-file killer.

Mounted Erkenbrand - D7 hero with knockdown on the charge, 3 Might and his horn of wonder - 10 points more than a captain for his horn, a point of Might and F5 - yes please.

Vrasku's a very good buy. He's a great hero sniper early in the game and can hold his own in a brawl too. To be honest all Ugluk, Mauhur and Lurtz are all good value heroes.

Thranduil. Absolute no-brainer these days.

I agree with literally all of you!

I've also found Shagrat, War Leader to be quite effective. For significantly fewer points, you get an Evil Hero who can tie up the most expensive Good Heroes for at least a few turns. Amdur is also quite good, as is Gothmog. Although expensive, their special rules make them interesting models to use.

Dain (against troops) and Thorin (against heroes with Oakenshield and Orcrist) also usually perform well for me.

Fimbul and hunter Orc captains are also both pretty solid for what you pay for btw..

Rúmil is probably my favorite hero, just for what you get for his points. He is my troll/monster/hero killer in low point games(500pts) but can also carve up normal troops if he is properly supported. He is a no-brained over a captain anytime. Thranduil is also very goo too. I also like Haldir, just because he has some cool special rules depending on which profile you use.

Thorin. Dirt cheap for what you get. Especially with his shield and Orcrist.

Gimli and his papa have done me well, certainly. I've played far fewer games with Gloin, but I've never been disappointed with him.
