A little bit off topic but kind of relevant:

I recently picked up the 1st issue of Hobbit Collectors Models part work magazine published by eaglemoss. Inside there is a questionnaire and intriguingly question 10 reads "Do you collect Games Workshop Lord of the Rings Figurines?"

So does this mean they might be thinking of going down this avenue if there are enough people who answer yes to that question? One can only hope. There is also an online version of the survey which I suggest all members here fill out at http://www.eaglemoss.com/hobbit

EDIT: unfortunately the online survey only appears if you sign up to an online subscription.

I can't find the survey there. But let's take it as good sign!

Take a visit to your local newsagent or at least phone them to see if they stock it?

Signed it. It would be a good move for GW to sort of revive it. However, with their current attitude towards loyal customers, that won't happen.

Just a theory here, if Green Dragon HQ were to foot some sort of initiative to get this rolling properly how would this be received? What I'm considering is contacting Games Workshop (to make sure we can legally use their logos etc, if not find a legal workaround) and draw up a prototype issue. Show this prototype around the net, you know a battle report, painting guides etc, I figure we can get some oneringers to contribute, then maybe I can get my hands on a couple hundred goblin town warriors and throw one or two in free with each issue, put it on sale and see what happens!

I know there are many, many more things than what I've just mentioned to be considered, and it'd be a real challenge to get it finally printed and in your hands. But the initial idea is what I'm wanting feedback on. Rather than sit here and wait for somebody to do it, which may not ever happen, we could poke the bear and try and do it ourselves. The issues I see are around legality/royalties and permission to even mention Games Workshop even the magazine. I look forward to constructive responses :).

Email sent to GW HQ ;) Hold on to your seats for what could be either a flat-out "no." response or something that gets the ball rolling.

Either way I've tried to make something almost as good but not as amazing in the re-vamped Green Dragon Games newsletter. Nothing is actually set in stone yet but it looks like we'll be replacing battle reports with a monthly column from Thermo "through the eyes of a new hobbyist" in a similar vein to Jeremy Vettock's in White Dwarf and we'll have reviews of the latest minis by various contributors along with our project of the month, info on new releases, a letter from myself and of course, juicy discount codes which will be our equivalent of a free mini seeing as we can't send one through your laptop screen... yet o.O.

I too am doubtful of making any progress toward an official BGiME re-print run, let alone a whole new series of mags so I think we'll have to make do with what we have and enjoy our own appreciation of the hobby on forums such as this :).

If it's refused, us guys from one ring could make a magazine to be issued every now and then, with many pages of battle reports by thermo and others, painting guides by DMS and others, sculpting guides by UKFB and others and terrain guides by people with cool terrain (Celevue comes to mind as no. 1). Topics for sculpting and painting could be voted on on this website.
What do you guys think?

LOL Totally forgot about that thread, I'll be doing a similar (Very safe and legal thing) with the newsletter starting next month so keep your eye out and subscribe on our homepage to receive it direct :). Here is the response, its a no from Games Workshop I'm afraid no matter the petition or not.

"I think the idea of a part works [magazine] has been considered [for the Hobbit] however I do not believe that at this time there are any plans to do another one."

So thats a no folks sadly, just White Dwarf for now.

BGiME was so good.

Getting the fans in was a very useful thing and I'm a shame it wasn't continued or renewed for this round of the game.

GW probably didn't make a loss on BGiME though as the metal models were fairly cheap to give away and they probably mark stuff up so high anyway that BGiME was just normal cost for the stuff they did give away.

The Fellowship was given away in 8 issues of BGiME, costing £24. The Fellowship box was £25. Go figure.
