I saw in the new rulebook that Thorin's company could be upgraded with ponies. I seem to remember that ponies don't give cavalry combat bonuses (just movement speed), but I can't find that in the rules anywhere. Also, for characters like Dwalin, who have a 2-handed weapon, can those still be used on pony-back?

I thnk the rules for ponies have changed, they now count as regular cavalry unless excplicit;y stated otherwise.

Two-handed weapons can be used whilst mounted as the rule make no mention of not being able to.

Do they still have to make a courage test to charge?

Well, no where in the rulebook does it say that models on ponies have to take a test to see if they can charge, so as with other points, logic dictates that they do not have to.

So the new Thorin and Dwalin on ponies are quite powerful then for fairly low points costs. Hmmm.....
