Hi everyone! Recently started the hobby again after 8 years, and got inspired by all the WIP posts, so made my own. Just made a few pics with my iphone, so not the best quality, but trying my best. Anyhow acquired a mines of moria set, and starting repainting some metal mini's and doing stuff I still had laying around.

Here's the first few pics. Recently finished the plastic Gimli, Gandalf, Boromir, Aragorn and Frodo. Even though they're plastic, I think they came out pretty oke, especially since I'm only just dusting of my painting skills, so bear with me! :P

Even though the aragorn model was a bit strange I think he worked out pretty oke.

O ideas for the base are welcome, cause I'm not happy with them yet, but haven't figured out what to do with them yet. This scheme looks good on my Space Wolves, but the larger rocks turn out a bit big on the LotR mini's.

Thanks for the nice replies! :D

Managed to make a few sharper pics with a little more light. Also made a pic of my current WIP, which are around 32 goblins, which I'm sort of gonna speedpaint tomorrow.

And yes I managed to pick the wrong color for Gandalf's beard but I wasn't really thinking much when I was painting him, was basically watching the box. >.<

Getting the hang of this pic uploading :P some other stuff I have also been working on.

Working on a couple of these guys, trying to do some speedpainting, cause I don't like them, but I'm pleased with the looks for now. Again I don't like the bases though, especially on these bigger ones, so advice is welcome.

Also working on this guy, but I have a bend in his banner stick so any tip is welcome :D. I know I should have taken it out before, but I was like I want to paint :kitten: .

Great job on all your mini's so far, especially the eyes, they are really well done 8) .
As for bases, check out this article kb.php?a=38 It's really well done and I learned a lot from it. Hope it helps!

If you paint thin lines of a lighter brown on the minas Tirith guys banner pole it will disguise the bend anyway - nice painting all round here.

if this is your ok then I can't wait to see your stuff when you are back into it fully. I've been in this hobby for years and have only just got to this sorta level. Lovely detail on the faces of the fellowship. Keep it up 8)

Thanks for the nice replies, and tips!

Planned to do all the 34 goblins today but that didn't really work out. I plan on doing three different green color for the skin, so decided to finish the first group entirely instead of painting the other groups as well. Also did some work on my trolls which will do for now. Nothing too fancy on the trolls and gobbo's, but they will do for tabletop standard I think. (plan on finishing up a Moria army)

Somehow the plastic troll turned out shiny after varnishing tho, compaired to the metal one, no clue as to why that is...

Very good work, i'm liking Frodo, he looks great!

Some of the colours on Gandalf and Gimli look to be too much in contrast with the base colours - did you use pure paints, or did you mix them?

I take it you mean the coloring, or the paint itself? On the color side I basically did both, I did around 5 different colors on Gandalf for instance, Adeptus Battlegrey -> Black wash -> Highlight Battlegrey, -> Mix codex grey + adaptus battlegrey -> Codex Grey so might have something to do with that. It could have something to do with the foundation paints, dunno, or it's my 40k highlighting taking over. Maybe I'll try some wetblending on the next models, but that I haven't really got the hang of that yet, or the patience dunno. :P

So I decided to order the EfGT set a few days ago, and it arrived in the mail on saturday! Started a bit of painting right away.

So far I've finished Bilbo, which turned out pretty good (although I couldnt really get a good photo, so it doesn't really do him justice), and Ori, which didn't turn out oke, but he'll have to do.

Also finished some work on Pippin, Sam & Legolas from the Mines of Moria set. All that's left there is Merry.

Your painted faces are great - better than I can manage. You are making the best of the sculpts. Neatly based also. And Sam with the frying pan is one of my most liked sculpts because it is so typical of Master Gamgee. ('I think I'm getting the hang of this')
