Thanks again. I went back to the GW website and what you've said makes sense now. I'm pretty sure they changed the site as originally, the had pictures of both sprues in both sets. Now the EfGT boxed set only shows the one sprue.

*Edit* NOT looking forward to the box set arriving since finding how incomplete the rules are and the paint guide is $25.99 (Aus) on the iBookstore!

All new paint guides use the new GW (Devlan Mud) paint style. I fear you may be very disappointed with it.[/quote]

Is it only digital available?
Why will we be disappointed?

I don't know if its digital only. Games Workshop introduced a whole new line of paints and when they did that they started pushing a less interesting paint style. You can see these new paint jobs in all the GW Hobbit release photos. GW paint guides used to be beautiful to look at. That's ended in my opinion.

Just a note, look at page 128 of the new large rule book, new finecast models of Bilbo, all the dwarves and I think Gandalf

Judging by that pic, I'd say the plastic ones look better!

Picked mine up yesterday and all considering I am really happy with the set. The detailing in the models is excellent. The terrain is really well done, and makes me want to get started on whole goblin town game board.

I am going to start playing the scenarios tonight, and I am quite looking forward to it. They seem well written, and will be easy to modify to get more use of it. I am especially curious to try out the limited Radagast scenario. Only two wizards sneaking around posted sentries, looking for objectives.

Word to the wise, for those who haven't got thier's yet. Some pieces are extremely fragile. I actually broke 2 pieces last night while cleaning up the models with a razor. I also don't recommend assembling and de-assembing the goblin king too much. I was extremely nervous taking him apart last night, the head section felt like it was going to crack.

Ill post a Battle Report (scenario review) as I play through them. All and all, no buyers remorse here

I got the EfGT set almost entirely for Thorin and Company, although in hindsight I'm glad I got the Goblins and their leaders too.

I pretty much knew there would be a finecast set of the Dwarves, but the potential price is off-putting. The Fc Fellowship (9 models) is $67.25 Cdn, the Fc Nazgul (also 9) is $87.25 and the brand new Fc White Council is $90! 13-15 finecast minis would likely run me over a hundred bucks! Considering my only gripes with the Company (beards too short, strange equipment choices) would carry over to the Fc versions, I'm glad I got the plastics.

I'm surprised no ones brought up the new models shown in the rules manual:

Rivendell Elf cavalry
3 poses of eagle (please be plastic..!)
Radagast the Brown (different to plastic model)
Orc Captain (don't recognise him, think he's new)
New Elrond (not White Council) (I think, could be another Rivendell character)
Grim Hammer Dwarfs / Captain (really heavy armour and hammers)

By the way, just as a counterpoint; I'm really impressed with the box set, rule book and new models. And I love the new paints and the GW guides. :D

That new Elf is likely Lindir, also known as "Figwit" played by the guy from Flight of the Conchords. Though I'm a little unsure who is who in those shots from the youtube video.

The heavy elf cav look really cool, and their profile is sweet, lances and shield options, though they come with bow in the profile so it looks like we've got another ROR problem but less severe. Anyway I'm exited all over again for the movie and upcoming releases.

More severe, really, as they are supposedly the only Warrior models in their list. Do they have Expert Rider? If not, GW have done buggered it up.

They do have expert rider. And they are the only models in the House of Elrond list, not even any infantry. I see some house rules coming.

Yes they do,but what I was referring to was how restricted the amount of ROR you can have in a list officially. But ya form what I saw and know they are the only warriors in their list, perfect for scenarios but for pick up and play, I'm sceptical.

Are their stats identical to a heavy armoured Elf? If so, I don't see any reasonable opponent forbidding you house-ruling that High Elven infantry can't be in the list as well.

Yes, same stats+horse+expert rider+lance+elven blade+elf bow. They can also take a shield for the usual amount.

Most of the profiles for the Hobbit models are on the website, with may notable exceptions. All but one of the hunter orc profiles are on the web site right now. Fimbul the Hunter doesn't have a profile listed fro some reason. The trolls have profiles list for them. They are all named and seem to be hill troll heroes. The only good Hobbit profiles currently up are the White Council. Still no points value yet.

WOW, all that gear they must be insanely expensive! So much of it is unnecessary too, GW did screw it up a little. There is absolutely NO advantage to having an Elven blade on horseback, and an Elf bow standard is wonky too. Didn't they learn their lesson from Haradrim Raiders and RoR?!

@Kidterminal: I noticed the lack of profiles too. For the EfGT boxed set, I can forgive them since 19 profiles on one page would add significant clutter. Don't expect the points values to show up any time soon though.

I like the look of the knights tho and it appears that they are to charge thru woodland at full speed as they have the woodland creature spec rule.

Edit 2: Picture removed by SouthernDunedain at request of MODs

Great looking elven horsies - I have been anticipating these since the first trailer appeared. Please let them be plastic....

I'm hoping they will be a similar kit to the plastic dol amroth, morgul knight kits etc so options for a captain, banner and a war horn. Yes, rivendell knights can take war horns :D
